Is there any trick to using the little saw-wheel knobs to lock the legs in place once they've been adjusted? I can't keep the things from losing adjustment and finger tight doesn't cut it. Mine are probably 35+ years old. I'd hate to resort to using pliers on them.

I've never had a problem tightening them down. Could there be some corrosion on the threads that is preventing you from turning the knob far enough in?

On my Winter fox/coyote rifles, some 1/2" wide, .750 round alum. knobs with a tight counter bore JB Welded over the original Harris locking knobs worked great....they had some aggressive knurling on them for use with gloves. You could also cut some scallops around them or put flats on four sides for better grip. They were 'T' shaped to get out away from the legs. -Al
