You may want to include the type of shooting you will be doing in order to get the best responses.
If this is short range BR I have shot the Franklin BR2000 and liked it very much. Great tracking and easy on the eyes. It is NOT meant for those who like to hold the gun at all (very odd angles in the grip area).
On my score gun I use a Bruno/McMillan and find it to work well. I don't know that I would enjoy it as much if I wanted to hold it, but it does what it is supposed to do well.
The best advice I can give you is to sit behind as many as possible. Stock type and preference is personal and your body and shooting style may dictate the right stock for you. It is worth the effort to find people who have different stock types so that you don't invest in something that you don't like.

I am kinda partial to the robertson BRX myself. I didnt think i liked them at first but the more i shot one the more i liked it. Actually i am always on the lookout for them. they seem to be a bit hard to get a hold of. Mcmillan is always a safe bet, as is the kelblys stocks. they are all good really. I think it comes down to personal preference more than anything else, plus it has to fit and feel as natural as possable, and only you can make that call. Good Luck and enjoy the search!! Lee

Budget? best stocks for short range BR are Scoville or Leonard.......rides very well the bags and very low gravity center......and good retention of price when you sell the rifle.....

There are 3 basic kinds:

1. Custom built up wood and carbon/glass stocks: Very nice, stiff, well dampened, hard to get, expensive. No paint reqd. Scoville, Larsen, Leonard et al.

2. Fiberglass/carbon shells, somewhat hollow core, action and barrel channel have shell material. Strong, stiff, easier to get, not so expensive, really need paint to look real nice, judgement call. Kelblys, old Lee Six, et al.

3. Fiberglass/carbon shells with filled core, action and barrel channel do not have shell material with exposed core. Strong, stiff, easier to get, not so expensive, some need paint, others dont. Robertson Composites and all the ones he makes for others have very nice finish like a bass boat may have. The others look ok, but judgement call again. The Robertsons usually cost more but dont need paint. Stillers, Bordens?, RC directly et al.

These are all short range. I didnt leave anyone out on purpose, may have forgot something, am working from memory and am typing fast. Stocks are kind of like money, one in the hand may be worth two in the bush.

If you are shooting group, I would suggest any of the "low rider" stocks out there. Kelbly Klub, Larson, a Roberson, any of the "flat" stocks.

If you are shooting a 30 of some sort for score, then I would suggest an old McMillan, an Edge, any of the older stocks. About the only one of the newer stocks I would suggest for score shooting a 30 caliber is a Roberson. the "flat" stocks are way too brutal on the shooter in 30 to be ones to consider.

We have all been shooting our BRX Robertsons stocks in 30BR and not really had any issues. Most of the guns at the club we shot at are made on them too. Some are 10.5 lb and are a little rougher. The 13.5 lb guns arent bad at all.

David, what do you mean by any of the flat ones are TOO BRUTAL on the 30 shooters? You talking butt plate shape?

Gerry, In shooting a rifle with a BRX stock has there been any positioning location of the fore end on the front rest which appears to work better? Or is it a non issue?

Have you stocked any rifles with the new JTR designed stock?

Calvin

Whats this new JTR stock? I havent heard of this one yet. I am needing a stock for the haverkamp action and i havent been able to come up with anything just yet. I did find a Kelblys TMBR for a good price, but i have never handled this stock. I am wanting a HV 30BR/ppc/ 6br Just a basic play rifle. Whats the scoop on this JTR, Any links to were i can see a pic? Thanks sir! Lee

I saw the latest version of the Bruno Edge at the last River Bend match. It looked pretty nice. I have 2 of the original Bruno Edge that I am happy with. One on a rimfire and the other is on a 30BR.

Lee I know there is a real good picture of one on the forum somewhere. Just not sure where.

Quite a few of us, well almost all of the Western Canadian shooters have one or are in the works of getting one. I have my new Bat at Robertson as we speak waiting to get pillar bedded then to just have my barrels chambered. Hopefully it will be ready by mid August.

Really looking forward to getting it.
