You can't beat a deal like that. Shoot a match, visit with friends, win awards, get fed a good meal. All for $15.00. The Guvment should be so successful.

P1ZK will be there

I will be bringing at least 1 extra shooter. We will be coming from Dallas, so we might not be there till 7:30 or 8:00.

My dad shoots left handed, so I asked Jackie to let us share a bench.

I have just relocated to The Woodlands from PA and I would like to find out more about the match. Would it be possible to obtain a program w/ directions to the range?

Hope This Helps

The address for the Tomball Gun Club is 12600 Zion Road Tomball, Texas.

Go to Google and get yourself a map. You can also use the satellite photo's and visually locate the range from outer space.....

Just so happens I saved some directions for me coming from Austin, and folks coming from the North like Dallas and Fort Worth. Hope this helps.

From I-45 North, take 2920 toward Tomball. You will go about 10 miles, and see FM 2978. Take a right, and go about a mile to the red light. Take a left, and proceed about 1/8 mile, the road will take a sharp 90 degree turn to the left. The next street is Zion. Take a right, go down about 3 tenths mile, you will cross a bridge. About one more block, you will see the yellow Tomball Gun Club sign on the right. Proceed down this dirt road through two gates, about a mile, and you will dead end into the range.

From the Tomball Inn Address: 30130 State Highway 249, (formerly Best Western Tomball Inn), Tomball, TX 77375-4015 PH: (281) 351-9700.

Directions from Austin

Jackie, I'm driving over from Austin on Saturday August 2nd. Using 290 to 2920 to Tomball. Staying at the Tomball Inn on State Highway 249 Saturday night. Zion appears to intersect 249 north of the Inn. Can you provide directions to the club from there. Thanks, Art

Art: Proceed down Zion for about a mile. You will cross a mainline Rail Road track. Go about another 3/4 mile, and start looking for the big yellow Tomball Gun Club sign on the left. If you reach a bridge over a creek, you have gone too far. Zion dead ends into E Huffsmith. If you make it to there, you have gone about .4 miles too far. I will put a stake with a target on the turnoff to the range. The range road is a dirt road that goes about a mile back into the woods and dead ends into the Range. I will have my cell phone. If you get lost, call me. The number is (832) 689-4157 See you there. ... jackie. Art

Tomball Gun Club Match Info

I have just relocated to The Woodlands from PA and I would like to find out more about the match. Would it be possible to obtain a program w/ directions to the range?

Tomball Club Match Class Rules.

-

Classes:
Factory......Mass produced repeating Rifles, (must have a magazine). This class also includes mass produced AR's and similiar Rifles, such as Contenders, lever actions, Falling Blocks, etc. The only modifications allowed are improvements in bedding and adjusting of the Factory Trigger. There are no limitations on sights, caliber, or ammunition. If there is a question as to the legality of a Rifle for Factory Class, the Match Director will make the determination.

Modified......Rifles built on mass produced actions but with modifications such as custom barrels, custom triggers, and custom stocks. This includes AR's and similiar Rifles that are built in specialty shops with what is considered custom barrels and other components. The forearm of the stock cannot exceed 2.5 inches in width, and any stock that is deemed a "Benchrest" Stock will not be allowed in Modified Class. There are no limitations on sights, caliber, or ammunition.
Clarification :The term "mass produced actions" will include custom actions if that action has a magazine cutaway. Mass produced Factory Actions that do not have a magazine cutaway, such as the Remington 40x and Savage BR are legal for modified class.

Benchrest.......Any legal firearm can be used in Benchrest Class.

The Format:
100 yards for score, consisting of five 5-shot Matches. Each 5-shot Match will have a 7 minute time limit. The target is the standard NBRSA Score Target. A perfect score will be a 250-25x. However, the X is used only as a tie breaker.Example: A 250-0x beats a 249 24x.

Ribbons will be awarded for the top three places in each class. The shooter with the highest combined score for the best 3 out of 4 Matches will be declared "Shooter of the Year". The 2008 Shooter of the Year was Victor Smith.

These Matches are open to the public, and I encourage all to come out and participate. This is a good way for shooters to "experience" Benchrest without all of the rig-a-mo-row that is involved in Registered Match Competition. The entry fee is $15. Matches will start promptly at 9:am. The Range Gates will be open at 6:am.

Any questions, call Jackie Schmidt, Tomball Gun Club Match Director, at (832 689-4157...........jackie

I will be there bringing one with me. We are comeing from Tyler, both shooting factory class. see you there. Buddy

Jackie / Vic ...

I've decided to forgo the CTBRS luncheon on Sunday in New Braunfels and shoot in Tomball. See you late Saturday afternoon? Will the range be open? Art :)

I'll be sure to bring my rubber boots.

I was gonna ask about that. Can't find my old ones, so I guess it's off to Walmart to get a new pair. Never been to Tomball so I don't know anything about the range facilities. Do I need to bring a table or is there enough bench space for cleaning/reloading?

Need boots?

Mostly, no. Sometimes, yes. You're not likely to need them Sunday for water but with the recent rains it might be a bit muddy at the targets.

There are eight (8) 4'X8' tables for loading. Those can accomodate 32 people if people "scrunch-up" a bit. There's room between them for individual loading tables, as well as space in the building for individual tables that is more out of the weather. It's likely to be cool early Sunday and it might be a bit breezy parts of the day.

Attached are a few pics of the range so you'll have an idea of what the setup looks like.

The wet one is from the Crawfish last year. I don't think you'll see anything like that this weekend.

See ya Sunday.

And, no, it's pretty likely Gary WILL NOT be shooting that hunting rifle in the match.

Glen

Sorry...

I just can't forgo the once a year CTRBS banquet. This club's officers work very hard to provide great club and sanctioned matches along with a terriffic banquet. However, I will attend a few Tomball matches this year come what may.

Look'in forward to it...virg

Question on modified stocks

Tomball Club Match Class Rules.

-

Modified......Rifles built on mass produced actions but with modifications such as custom barrels, custom triggers, and custom stocks. This includes AR's and similiar Rifles that are built in specialty shops with what is considered custom barrels and other components. The forearm of the stock cannot exceed 2.5 inches in width, and any stock that is deemed a "Benchrest" Stock will not be allowed in Modified Class. There are no limitations on sights, caliber, or ammunition.

I would like a clarification on this rule. I wanted to shoot in modified class next time, and wondered if my shehane style stock with a 2.5" forearm would constitue as a bench rest stock. I assume it does not as the stock butt of the gun is straight and not at an angle like the other benchrest stocks I own.

added: The action is a Remington 700.
