Firing pin on a 700,

treece

I had to do some fire forming today. A 50 round box of Peterson brass. So I loaded up 31g of vv135 with some 70g sierra MK and went to town.
First shot bang, second shot, ping! Third , ping,
25 pings! Went and cleaned everything up and checked head space. Made sure I loaded long jamming bullets. Went to changed primers.
Third time out to finish the last 25 rounds, had 8 pings. Dumping powder everywhere, making a mess.
Finally decided to take some br4 primers and seat the primers shallow. That worked.
But, It shouldn't of had to be done this way.
Tomorrow will find out if fire formed brass shoots any better. Never had this problem this bad.
Only thing I can think of might be needing a new firing spring. One I got is 3 1/2 years old. Tubb firing assembly for 700 short.
Any thoughts, welcome.
Thanks

How long, often do you need to change firing pin, ? Not thinking thats what my problem is but if it is, I think I had 28 or 29 misfires for that box on first trys

Could there be a blanked primer inside your bolt? The little disk could be restricting firing pin movement. Strip the bolt and flush out the inside.

While the bolt is apart, thoroughly clean the pin and spring and only use a light, thin oil. No grease inside there.

Firing pins don't really go bad, unless dropped. Firing pin springs should be replaced regularly, although Tubb springs are chrome silicon and should last many years.

Ha, you are correct, the spring had some shavings of something in ther, with plenty of what looked like powder, it was bad. . I cleaned it all up with brake cleaner and air. I should had done this long ago. Thanks, i couldn't figure the problem out yesterday for nothing. I presses for time and couldn't really figure nothing. 8 believe your right. No doubt

If your bolt is dirty than your trigger is prolly dirty also. Take it apart. Just flushing it with breekleen green or lighter fluid does not git into the middle where the gunk is.

Shot a good session trying to finish fire forming with 3 good groups at 270 yards. Had no misfires today either. So, i recon this owl problem won't be bothering me all weekend. Can't shoot for several days so I was in a mess trying to get problem fixed. This planned on being my last 6br barrel so I wanted to try this Peterson brass out. The stuff seems really soft. Maybe its a good thing. Im just comparing it to Alpha , lapua, brass.
There's a noticable difference in its sizing and seating forse.
