I am curious to know when the Denton Tx matches are this year? I use this site for scheduling and have checked the NTSA site but have not found anything yet. Anyone know if there are any dates set or how long before dates are set? I do not want anyone to misread this I love the matches put on by the members and the last thing I want to do is offend anyone. I just want to make sure I have the chance to make as many as I can and I hope I did not miss the post or something.
Thanks

Denton NBRSA Registered Matches

Go to Benchrest Centrals home page. Click on the NBRSA logo then click on match schedule tab. Club matches are listed on the Jerry Stiller's web site at least they used to be.

There is currently 4 matches listed as registered, but the club still needs to sign the contracts. At this time there is no one stepping up to run the club matches. I have too much to do and cannot do them this year.

Sorry to hear it.

Ok I am not a club member but I will voulenteer to run them. I know we need more people steping up in benchrest and just need to know what the responsibilities are and if I (a Non-Member) am allowed to run them? I appreciate what you have done for the last few years running the matches Jerry as well Mike Stinnett and Jon Conley. Jon was the first person I met when I came to the first match to watch about 3 years ago and he introduced me to everyone and is a super nice guy. I did not even have a gun to shoot yet and his dad Mike Conley and Ralph S. let me shoot the guns they had just for fun. Great people and I hope to give back a little so we can continue to shoot. I will do what is needed and be there early or whatever is required in order to allow people to shoot and have a good time with good friends.
I hope I can Help

Interesting thought Brandon. The #1 person on the membership waiting list has a application date of Oct 2011. So it takes a while to get to be a member. Along with a fairly stout initiation fee. It would be nice if they'd let you do it. But there are probably issues of liability, responsibility and access that might make it impossible for a non-member to do what you want. Of course, you don't know until you ask.

Thanks
I kinda thoght that. I live on a ranch and have all the land I want to shoot on and even have easily out to 1000 yards to shoot. with that being said yes I am extremely blessed and am very lucky to have this. However this makes me have no need to drive for 1 hour plus to go shoot and the money spent on a membership would be better used on barrels and bullets. I wish I could afford to be a member at all the ranges I shoot at and support them but it just isnt practicle on a gunsmith salary. the only reason I can afford to compete is because it is for the business and counts as a business expense. Again I am lucky remember. but i try to pay back in willingness to help however I can. When legalities get in the way I understand and have considered opening a range out here but see how muddled things get when you begin looking at liabilities etc. in otherwords I would not trust anyone to run the matches that was not proven safe and I felt good about also. So thanks but just to throw it out there I am willing to do whatever I can to help and get people to the range and shooting.
Thanks again and I hope to see you guys at the registered matches. I also hope to see some club matches this year.

Brandon, you come down to our Club Matches, and you can see that it can be rather informal, while still keeping with the best traditions of Benchrest. Also, I think that the single Agg format has quite a bit of appeal. Shooters don't won't to get home late and be all worn out from the ordeal.

Liability is a big factor in doing this, one reason I can not shoot in our Club Matches is The Board of Directors wants me in complete controle at all times, and if I am shooting, there is no way I could do that. I feel fortunate that Tomball lets us do what we do and use the facility.

We have the opposite problem at Tomball with our Matches, in that we do not have a Registered Match Director. The hassles with putting on a Registered Match simply seem to be overwheming and the fun and enthusiasm wear down pretty quickly.

Good Luck with your attempt at working with Denton, and I hope to see you again in March...........jackie

Jackie thanks and a quick question for you

Thanks Jackie
I am willing to run Denton club matches and not shoot in them also. I just want to do what I can to help. next time you need anything at Tomball and I am there feel free to ask I do not mind helping in anyway I can.

My bother in law just bought a 300 Blackout and wants to shoot in factory class downin tomball. what is the scope limits on power he needs a scope for it and I did not know for sure what to tell him. also what are your rules on modified class so I will know for future questions I may be asked.

Brandon, there are no restrictions on scopes in any of the three classes. Shoot what you want.

Modified is supposed to represent a typical mass produced Rifle that has been rebarreled, restocked, retriggered, etc. The forarm cannot be more than 2.5 inches wide. It must have a magazine or the space for one. Think of your typical live varmint rig.
Custom Actions that are sort of Remington Drop Ins and have a magazine cut-away are allowed. A good expample is The Borden and Stiller actions that have a Remington foot print. AR's that are of the custom variety, ie, krieger barrels and all sorts of fancy accuracy enhancers, will shoot in Modified.
I also place legal NBRSA HBR Rifles in Modified.

In truth, I have the final say as to what class any Rifle will shoot in. We have very few problems, so it seems to be working.

There are no caliber restrictions or weight limits in any of the three classes.
