Am looking to buy either a Boyds Varmint Thumbhole or a Stockys Long Range Varmint wood stock to go on a Savage 12FV in 223. Anyone have any experience with either of these? Are they truly drop in, minor fitting or any other issues? Thanks for any input!

Yup... I bought a Boyds LRV from Stocky's on eBay for $89 about 5 or 6 years ago, and it was the best $89 I have spent - the finish was great - no drips, scuffs, or flaws. The stock would've been a drop in, except that I had to open the barrel channel for a pig fat barrel.

When the barrel channel was opened, it was a drop in, and I dropped my barreled action into Brownell's "Steel Bed" :))

It required no other work or finishing - If I had a standard Rem 700 HB Varmint, I could have screwed it in and gone shooting, 30 minutes after I opened the box.

I'd buy another in a New York second!
