I have been wanting a bore scope for some time now, and this may be time. Looking at one retailers web site i noticed they offer a set focus bore scope for under 600. Hawkeye of course. Will i be disapointed in the set focus, or should i spend another 110 bucks for the better unit? thanks Lee

Are the objective lenses on your scopes still set to the centre mark, or did you adjust them to focus the crosshairs? I'm thinking that is the type of risk you're taking with preset.

Lee spend the extra $ for the focusing scope and be much happier. I also put a LED light on mine the white light is much better that the light that they send.

Lee,
My wife bought me one for Christmas several years ago along with the "upgraded" light. It turns out that the upgrade is not worth it. I prefer to use the mini-mag light with a LED bulb. So save your money on that, but get the focus model.

Ron

Get the deluxe edition with focus adj AND the right angle eyepiece. This is a once in a lifetime expenditure, get it right the first time.

I concur with crb, this falls into the catagory of buy once...cry once. I'm sure glad I got the angle piece right off. Most gunsmiths I have talked to recommended the 90 degree eyepiece because of how much they use it.

I use a friend's that has the focus feature and a right angle adapter. It is really convenient to use. I would get the one that you can focus.

Buying a bore Scope

if anyone knows of a nice used unit, please let me know! Thanks Lee

Lee:

If you can wait until the Shot Show you can get the best deal available. There is a rifle smith package 21" scope with right angle sleeve, 11" with right angle sleeve, 90* eye piece, two light sources, hard case, cleaning goodies. Both of these units will focus and adjust in magnification. This set normally sells for about $2,100.00, I got mine a Shot Show demonstrator for about $1,700.00 with a full warranty.

Since your into gun building now I would recommend you also purchase the camera and software unit. It is hard to sell your bore scope services without providing your customer with pictures and documentation. This software allows you to measure, and add documentation directly to the photos.

Another skill that will tell you things a bore scope will not, is slugging your barrels. This is a learned skill and you can do it at a very low expense.
Just my two cents worth.

p.s. come off of some of the rusty money and find out the true cost of doing business.

I just picked up the Hawkeye 17" 90 degree eye piece with focus from Bruno's, they seem to have the best prices.

Hi
Does anyone use the Phase II RGB-1750 Fiberoptic SuperScope Rigid Borescope ?

Do you fellas that have the adjustble focus bore scope use the focus option much. I have been told by several that have the adj focus that they dont ever use it. They claim they dont find the need to. Lee

Lee,
Once it is focused to their eye, then there is little need to move it, but I would think that being able to make that adjustment would be an advantage. The only ones that I have used could be focused.

I've had a Gradient Lens scope for years. Not long after this brand came on the market. I wouldn't own one without the focus feature and a good light source. Just changing bore diameters (caliber) needs some minor adjustment.
