Barrel Tuner on a 223

G'day

I have a question about barrel tuners on centerfire rifles.
I am in the process of getting a rimfire benchrest rifle built for me.My gunsmith and I have agreed on the type and make of tuner we will use.
But this has got me thinking.I have a .223 rifle, single shot, new heavy barrel. This is not and will never be a bench gun, it is a fun shoot at targets, and the ocasinal small animal gun.The muzzle end of the barrel has a parrallel section where a target front sight can be mounted( As I said this is a fun gun, and sometimes I put target aperture sights on it).Anyway It got me thinking about putting a rimfire tuner on this centerfire and seeing what results can be achieved.Has anyone done this before , can a rimfire tuner be used on a centerfire ,and if so what weights and settings have been successful .

Thankyou for your time

harro,

Aussie Fullbore shooters have been tung their rifles for factory fodder for a couple of decades now by incrementing the foresight along the barrel. If you have a 3/4" or 19 mm parallel on your barrel, you might find you can have a lot of fun with just the clamp on base for a foresight. We did that for a time with our early F clas guns before various proprietary devices were made for the job. We found that around 2 ounces gave the most forgiving adjustment. The more weight you put on up to 6-7 ounces, the more critical was the adjustment necessary for best grouping & the less forgiving it was of load variations.

Have fun,

John
