Virg or Art:

I know there is typically a match on the fourth Sunday of every month, will there be a match this Sunday, December 27th even though this is a holiday weekend? I can't promise I'll be there, but I'm going to try if there's a match. It seems some in the holiday spirit have failed to give me enough work to keep me in the office the entire holiday season!

Thanks.
Ryan

Ryan ...

It's NOT the 4th Sunday of the month. It's always the "LAST" SUNDAY OF THE MONTH. There are 5 Sundays in some months. Just want to clear that up. Just checked with Virg. Yes, we'll shoot this Sunday the 27th. See you there! Art :)

Thanks

Art,

Thanks for the claification! I hope to be there and hope to be bringing another shooter with me. SHE has her own rifle and is a pretty darn good shot, but we share a front rest and bag setup. Will there be two relays?

Thanks for the information.

In three years, I can't remember having more than one relay but you never know. I have a couple extra rear sand bags that I'll bring, and I know Virg has at least one extra [Cowan] front rest that he has loaned out before. ....

I just spoke to Virg on the phone. He's going to bring his extra front rest so you're set! Art :)

Well heck...Zombiekiller...If you can't find anyone in the Metroplex to ride to Austin with you...just stop by San Angelo on your way and a couple of us will ride with you:D:D:D

Last time

It's almost what I did last time. I hunt about an hour up 67 from San Angelo (outside Talpa), and I was hunting Thanksgiving weekend, and decided to "SWING BY" Austin on my way home to Dallas to shoot in last months match....

Be ready early... I'll honk when I'm pulling in the driveway.

Talpa..hmmm...my in-laws have a small place just a few miles west of Talpa towards Ballinger...I hope you had some good luck deer huntin'....
I am going out behind the house in the morning to "catch another one";)

Eddie in San Angelo

Oh by the way we shoot a money match (VFS) every 2nd Saturday of the month...If you decide to drive a little furthur you can shoot with us..:)

Vic ...

Will we need a NBRSA card to compete in this match and what is the entry fee?

We had a small meeting of competitors yesterday after our match and Virg covered these points. Yes, you're going to have to be a member of the NBRSA to shoot in the registered match; no, if you shoot in the club match which will be held simultaneously. If my memory serves me, the cost is a nominal $10 for the registered match, $5 for the club match. And another $5 if you want to throw some money into a pot for fun, if you're so inclined. So no more than $15, or no more than $10 and as little as $5. Art :)

AB has it right.
It is only neccessary to have an NBRSA card if you want to be recognized in the official NBRSA results.

So folks wanting to shoot don't worry if you aren't NBRSA affiliated.
You can still shoot in the club match.

P1Zombie Killer made it to the match and thank goodness he didn't bring that darned 30BR.
Wes thanks for making the drive.
We had a good turn out. Weather was steady for the first to targets and then started to get switchy as usual.
The temperature got up to about 50 or so.

Monitoring the temperature and humidity as the day progressed on my handy-dandy ThermoWorks Model RT817E Thermo-Hygrometer I can report that it got up to a TOASTY 58 degrees Fahrenheit [with 24% humidity] by the conclusion of our match. It was a beautiful clear and sunny day with winds out of the North and Northwest. Our average winter day in Austin is between 40 to 60 degrees. Art :)

Love going to Austin

It's always good to see a few of the guys I met last time. And I REALLY liked Ryan's rig he was shooting. I sure hope that lady friend of his did not whoop him, because that would have been a long drive home if it was my wife as she out shot me.

That 250-17x (I think that’s what you shot) was a nice score you turned in. I'll be ready in Jan 2010. I'm so glad I will get to shoot NBRSA when making the drive down there. I joined a couple of weeks ago, and all I think about is climbing that ladder.

Virg,
Thanks for holding these matches down there. I have a feeling a few of us from Dallas will make a drive down there several times in 2010 to shoot with you guys.

Thanks for the complement on the rifle - I'm pretty fond of it myself.

And, yes - it can be a long drive home when Jennifer shoots! Its a good thing we only live 20 minutes from the Austin Rifle Club. You may have noticed that while Virg was scoring the targets, Jennifer was standing over him trying to talk him out of giving me Xs!!

I was just looking at the 2010 NBRSA schedule, and they show Jan 24th as the shoot in Austin. There is another Sunday in Jan after the 24th. Can you clarify what day the shoot is on?

There are five Sundays in January, 2010, soooo...the match will be on the 31st of Jan. But...makes no difference; our matches are ALWAYS the LAST Sunday of the month. No matter what any calendar says or word you hear, unless I tell you different via telephone and I haven't changed the date in the last twenty years...or ever.

virg...

Hope to see at many more matches.;)

Will we shoot a warm up target before the VFS match begins Sunday???

Vic ...

Typically Virg provides a 3 minute sight in prior to or in conjunction with the first target. Some who get to the range early, 2 plus hours early, usually have an open period along with other members, to do some general shooting before Virg shuts it down so we can set flags and make other preps. Art :)

Match Starts...

What time does the match start?

I shut down the range at 12 noon for flag and equipment setup and the match starts at 1pm. I provide a 3min "sight in" at the first target sighter. If you have problems during this time, I will allow time to sort them out before continuing the full 7 minute match.

Hope to see you there....virg
