The NRA has responded. Their response is an IMMEDIATE solution that will work, it has before and it will today.
Some of you will respond to this thread negatively about the NRA and some of the previous attempts to over advertise as they have sometimes done with what many think was excessive mailings. Now is not the time to air that laundry.
Don’t waste your valuable time here on this forum, any forum, or any blog expounding what should be done to correct, or hopefully prevent, tragedies like the recent Newhope Connecticut shooting.
Instead, spend your Internet access time or your typewriter time, or your time hand writing your government officials.
-Write to your US Congressperson www.house.gov
-Write any other US Congressperson that you can get access to (also at the above address)
-Write the US Senators www.senate.gov Write them all if you have the time.
-Write your state legislators
-Write letters to the editors of your and other newspapers.
Some of the issues here are where tragedies, especially like this one, come from and much of the misinformation being expressed by well meaning individuals.
The root cause is a fault in the human character that was first displayed when Cain killed his own brother Able. This is one issue you need to express your feelings on to who you write.
Guns and misinformation on guns. There is more misinformation on guns in this national discussion than about any other discussion I can remember.
An example, a lady from Texas called CSpan and exclaimed that if you shot a deer with one of these all you would have left was the horns and hooves!!
Another example, a talking head on FOX exclaimed that the assault weapon is a “223 and you don’t need a 223 to shoot squirrels”.
One person, on one of these recent episodes, expressed great concern for having “30 caliber clips on M16’s”!!
See where this is coming from? Not only do we, the gun owners, need to express sincere concern and reasonable remedies to address this issue, we need to educate our elected officials on basic gun facts;
-An “assault rifle” is simply an ugly design of rifles Americans have used for decades. It looks intimidating, but the civilian version of the military AR15/M16/M4, that is available to gun buyers, from gun stores and gun shows, with its 5.56 caliber ammunition, is only about 30% as powerful as what Teddy Roosevelt’s troops carried up San Juan Hill in 1898.
On high capacity magazines; lower capacity magazine can be changed in less than 2.5 seconds. A high capacity magazine is much more like to jam than lower capacity magazines.
The 2nd Amendment, the right to keep and bear, it isn't about hunting ducks and squirrel, it is about defending our homes, our families, our school children, and our nation.
I’m confident that when you start expressing yourselves to the folks who will offer “gun control” legislation you will come up with much better solutions/ideas/suggestions than I have written here.
Like I have said many times before, its still WE THE PEOPLE.
