Ammo Testing Question.

G'day

I have a question to ask you knowledgeable shooters.
I don't want to start up an argument about should I or shouldn't I clean my Anschutz barrel (for the record I don't clean any of my rimfire barrels until I see the accuracy start to drop off).
But my question relates to testing different types of ammo ,to find that elusive type that my rifle just loves.
Should I clean the barrel between different ammo tests??
In the past I have always fired 15 - 20 rounds before starting an evaluation of that ammo ( this I do to condition the bore to the new ammo)
But lately I have been wondering if the previous ammo's residue in the barrel my be affecting the results ??
Should I be starting with a clean barrel for every test ??

Thankyou for your time.

Yes. It removes any variable of a pre-fouled barrel. Other than that, most RF BR shooters clean between targets (approx. 50 rounds). But I know that factory barrels behave differently than custom S.S. barrels and that isn't any importance to testing ammo in an unclean barrel. Hope this helps.

A wet patch and then two or three dry patches between cards is what most guys do. A story: I was not big on cleaning between cards...thought it was counterproductive. The very first time I shot competition indoors on ARA targets I was doing okay. First card was 2000, 2nd was 2200 and then the third target went to 1600. I cleaned before the 4th target and it scored 2200 or so. Lesson learned: clean BEFORE the rifle begins to lose accuracy. The guys that WIN clean often.

If I am testing say various lots of Eley I might not clean between test lots. If I switch to say Lapua yes, I will run a few patches before changing. Once I have narrowed it down and trying to find the best lot then yes I'll clean between them. bob finger

Clean between ammo

I agree, you need to clean between different ammo. THis was brought home when I was shooting Eley and then switched to SK. The first few shots with the SK were way better groupwise than the next ones - Eley lube still in the barrel.

Shooting Lapua on top of Eley is fine however Eley on top of Lapua is a No-No.
Try a few rounds of Eley and then go to Lapua. Bet you like it.
