Ammo, powder and primmers

This is a very simple question but I'm sure has a lot of answers. What happened to all of the ammo? It's getting impossable to purchase anything from standard side arm ammo to to your favorite deer rifle. Just several weeks ago I was in Harrisburg at the gun show and there were no primers or powder and very little ammo, then from there to Cabells main store. At Cabellas it looked like the vultures had hit there and picked everything clean. Does anyone see a let up where ammo, powder and primers with once again become available? Better hang on to what I have....

Thanks: Crosshair

I must ask all on this forum to please stop buying up all the ammo and components you can get your hands on. If you continue it will do 3 things:

1. It will make your government very nervous and they will think you don't trust them.

2. It will drive up the prices.

3. It will make it even harder for ME to find the stuff I need and want.

I called my local shooters supply and asked about rem. primers- lr/sr. The owner said that he would sell primers ONLY with the purchase of bullets and powder. this was to avoid some one buying his whole stock. last week at the local gun show primers were selling at $75.00 a brick(1000) 380 ammo-$80.00 a box, I don't know where it will stop.

Well, you COULD call, or Email a.........

company you've done business with in the past, and give them a standing order for a sleeve or two of primers, & wait your turn. When this lets up, you'd be wise to stock up. I don't see this relaxing in the NEAR future, everyone seems to have awakened to the fact, "Hey!! I don' got what I NEED!!!!" So, this may take a while to subside. Good Luck.

Dicks had 380 ammo for 17$ a box today in stock .At least in the Rochester MN. store anyway

I forgot to post above............

about two weeks ago, a buddy & I were in a Wally-World, & the woman there was complaining that some guy came in & bought a hundred dollars worth of 9MM, left & came back in 10 minutes and bought the rest of them, about $800 more; Half to three quarters an hour more, some other guy came in and bought all the .357, .44, & 45ACP they had. She was ticked because they limit the purchases of oil, "so everybody gets a chance at the sale prices, why don't they do the same for ammo??" But, Wally-World doesn't care, that's another store that'll take your money and your rights in the same breath.:rolleyes:

Can you imagine what it would be like if we could do the same thing with gasoline and fuel as we are doing with ammo and components? People going to the station and buying up all the gas. Man now that would get the governments attention.

Of course not everyone needs ammo but most everyone needs fuel.

Ya Thats the word. Thanks See what happenes when you get old. lol

Obama stated just the other day that he intends to re-institute an assault weapons ban. He just doesn't intend to do it "right now."

In the meantime, we need to send a message that the rationale behind the Second Amendment is to provide an armed electorate as a defense against a tyrannical government.

And we're arming ourselves to the teeth right now.

JC,
The scary part is that I understood what you said!

Ammo

Yeah,
It's an interesting question, isn't it? I don't think there are any simple answers but many. Here's how I look at the shortage and why I think it's tied to our current situation.

1) Our country is in trouble. Financial markets all over the world are fragile and people fear the worst; a total economic collapse. This means that goods and services, commodities, and life as we know it will change drastically. One only needs to look at the aftermath of Katrina to see what society can be reduced to. With that being said, the only person you can depend on for your security is yourself, hence the purchase of firearms and ammo.

2) When the s*** hits the fan, the dregs from the city are going to come pouring into the suburbs for easy targets. The easy targets will be the Yuppie class who have the new cars and the big houses they can't afford. The police will not be able to help.

3) There is a general feeling of uncertainty with respect to our new administration and leadership. Too many appointments of people with questionable backgrounds have taken place for me to believe that our leader really has a grip on what it takes to run this country. I hope I'm wrong but I'm not the only one with these feelings. Many feel that the liberals in his own party will convince him that gun confiscation will be the only way to deal with the unrest sure to follow. Janet Napolitano hinted at this in her memo that wasn't supposed to get out concerning future threats from returning veterans or right wing patriots with strongly held feelings.

You are right about that!! I am a brand new shooter and just went to my first match at WWCCA and Joe Krupa showed me the ropes. I got hooked on BR shooting.

But do you think I can find any primers for me to shoot any matches that are coming up?.. NOPE. So all I can do now is watch everyone have a good time. It just PEES me off.

Give rimfire BR a look.

Much shorter walk to the target.

You will spend most of your time at the range shooting.

You will spend none of your time working up "killer" loads.

Match ammo is still available.

You get to spend the same $$$'s on gear.

Just as hard to turn in a great score.

You will meet many of the same good people.

It's too bad supplies aren't like cookies!,... and why they can't just make more of what's in demand. That sounds like the only stock worth investing in for the short term.

There's no doubt that our country will think that banning guns will equate to lowering crime rates. Sadly, this will just put more gun manufactures out of business and the unemployment will rise more,... along with crime.

I'm also just getting into benchrest, and I have not found ammo since the election at Walmart (for my other guns). The reloading supplies are also harder to come by. I'm afraid my benchrest passion will be over before my rifle is even built, and now I question if I should have even bought it.

Guys all is not lost theres always "airgun" and another alternative "firehosebenchrest" for the big stuff and gardenhose benchrest for the smaller stuff I mean like, have you ever seen how a breeze throws your poi off when watering your garden now that's challenging We can even utilize our windflags. Ever try to be the first to fill-up a washtub at 12yds ? whoaaa, what a blast !!

I barely have anything stocked. I typically buy small quantities to last me a few weeks, then I internet search again. I don't have enough extra cash to buy huge amounts of just one thing.

But I have to ask...

Why can't these companies keep up with the demand? It appears they are losing a lot of business with the BR4 primers, powders, factory ammo etc, since they are not actually available in most places. Are these items really that hard for manufacturers to crank out?
