700 Magnum action to feed Ultra-Mag?

One of my 338 test platforms is a cannibalized 7MM Mag action.... It's no good to me as a Belted Mag.

Visually the only difference between belted mag and ultra-mag is the size (diameter) of the feed ramp slot.

Has anyone re-cut a feed ramp on one of these? Or are there other differences?

.243 to SAUM Conversion

Al:
I converted a .243 700 SA to a 6.5 SAUM using a Wyatt extended box. Besides opening the rails and extending the box mortise 'there are two points at the rail/ramp junction that need to be opened up to allow the cartridge to pass up the feed ramp'. Used a Dremel to merge the two. Just an FYI: I tried to use the standard mag box which should allow three in that box. It would not feed.. Had to change to center feed box which only held two in the Manners stock... All was then good. Rick

Angle of the feed ramp?

Al,

The angle on the bottom of the rails has to change to allow the case to stay tucked under. I free hand it with a dremel and abrasive wheel. But then I've I done a few. It's all about geometry. I also put in a longer box.

Yeahh, I'm hip to milling the Wyatt's boxes and since I have a dozen actions of all sorts variously kicking about I'll just copy acros't if I have to do the angles. And since I'm gonna' first try a centerfeed HS detachable box, I'll try get by with just the feedramp....

Thank You guys for your feedback, I'll probably start gouging soon. I wanted to know it was possible....... cuz, well, I don' wanna' talk about it....call it PAST EXPERIENCE :)

Those HS center feeds are really nice! Work slick.
