$35 Raspberry Pi computer

I saw these a while back and while it's a novel idea, it's really just a toy for experimenters. It's damn near impossible to get people to sit in front of a linux machine on the desktop, much less try to get the masses to use a single board machine running a specialized version of it.

I could see me buying one, spending time getting it to work, seeing it work, saying yep, it worked... then throwing it in the drawer and never seeing it again.

I saw mention of blu-ray playback... Well, I know a little about blu-ray playback and I gotta tell you, someone's dream'n if they think a 4 watt computer has enough horsepower to move that amount of data. Somebody's on a controlled substance, and abusing it...

OK Phil..... speaking of performance, if you need a DIRT simple sound system anywhere around the place, say out in an outbuilding, and haven't tried one of these > http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?PartNumber=300-380 < then do yourself a favor. Get one (or the equivalent Sonic T-Amp) plug in any old pair of speaks and enjoy :)

I've got ten of them.......... as well as some fairly serious audiophile stuff.....

Uh oh, another person who buys too much stuff on Parts Express!

I see on Newegg today, they've got a Pioneer 5.1 Receiver for $179/fs w/ promo code. I gave away my old 5.1 receiver and then afterward, wished I hadn't... Brilliant eh.

For my outdoor events, I have a pretty slick setup I came up with. I wired my speakers such that I can use the main HT receiver without moving it, and still get 7.1 outside. I bought a bunch of 6' extension cords, and cut them in two. Then, wired them up with banana plugs on the now cut ends. From there, I use my extension cords I have around the house and simply plug them into those 6' cords and I've got a speaker up to 100' from the receiver. 106 actually. It's simple, fast, and didn't cost a lot. And I don't have permanent stuff wired up outside. Not to imply this amp you show is permanent.

Then, we do movie nights or gaming nights outdoors. I have a 20' diagonal outdoor screen setup, and I simply project onto that.

Other than that, if I'm at home and outdoors, I'm probably mowing grass, or something else equally fun...
