Hi Guys
I am completly new to the 600 yard game and id appreciate if someone could help me out with some reloading data,i have a 308 win, obermeyer chamber, barrel 24" twist 1-14,at the moment iam shooting sierrra 168 HPBT with good results at 200 meters will this work out to 600 yards?,Thanks in advance to all replys,
Remy:)

I'm thinking a 1-10, 1-12 twist with Sierra 175 MK BTHP, or Berger 175 BTHP VLD. With that weight bullet the key is 2600 FPS to stay supersonic at 1000 yd.

Thanks for the reply but thats what i have at hand for now, what do you suggest be the best twist rate /barrel length for a 308 Win?

Don't worry a 14 will work fine. All it does is limit the number of bullets you can use. Work with 155-168 grs. and try some 175's. The target will tell you what to use.The IBS small group record was shot with a 308 shooting 155 Lapua bullets. I don't rememer what twist John was using but yes a 308 can compete in 600 yd. competition.

Dave,
John Lewis was shooting an old Hart 1.35 dia 1-14 twist barrel with a match chamber. He shot the smallest group ever fired in 600 yard competition (.404). John said he had shot several 0's and .1's at 100 yards with it. I would not hesitate to use a 308 at 600 if I were geared up to shoot one. Myself and Mike Davis talked about making a HG last year for 600 in 308, just never got around to it. A 308 always has been one of the most inheitable accurate cartridges around. It's only drawback is it gives up a little in BC to the heavy 6mm bullets and has added recoil compared to the 6's.
