260 remington build

I've built numerous 260's in different finish weights and barrel lengths. A twist of 1-8 or 1-8.5 will suit you well for bullet weights from 120 to 140 grains. I currently own two 260's, one with a #18 LV 26" barrel and one with a #6 HBS barrel. One weighs 16.5 Lbs. the other is 8.5 Lbs. I shoot 139 from the #18 and will shoot 140 Bergers from the #6. The #18 shoots the 139's at 2,800 fps + with ease and accuracy is stellar to 1000 yards.

I thought I would ask the guys that build rifles. Pro's-Con's for accuracy ?

To be used for?? If it is for BR it is not going to win any trophies. If it is for hunting, it is very versatile and quite accurate. Now that Lapua brass is available, along with Nosler, you can load some really good ammo without too much effort. I love mine.

My buddies and I have been shooting 6.5-284 for long range. Last year Elbert had Capt Bob chamber a 26" barrel in 260AI. It does not give up much to the the larger 284 case. Accuracy is excellent. Cases do not stretch like the standard 260. Barrel life looks to be better than the 284 case. In theory the AI should be better than the standard 260.

" better" is a hard work to qualify. Better in that brass lasts longer and velocities are higher, certainly but there are some trade-offs. A 260 AI is not going to feed nearly as slickly as a standard case. To really make it reliable you might have to resort to a center-feed magazine. In a hunting rifle, this could be a big deal.

I loaded up a round this morning with a piece of the new Lapua brass and measured the neck. I can't use it in my 260 without turning it down. I am going to rechamber before I turn necks on a non-wildcat hunting rifle. The reamer used on this rifle was not a good choice for hunting but I didn't realize this until after I had already received it.
