hey guys, but they said at another site i need to ask questions here so here goes. I have a 260 rem. and am having trouble with consistancies and need some info. I trying to work up hunting loads with 100 and 120gr. ballistic tips. I have tried 4064, 4320, 4350 and re-19 with not much results. I think seating depth is not quiet right. Any help would be nice. Thanks a bunch. lcdc.

your making it way too hard to help. A little more information from you is needed, what rifle, brass, and so on, what has the rifle printed, and what is it telling you? how are you cleaning it? is it clean? its a stab in the dark with out more from you. Ron Tilley

We would love to help, what are your expectation? What is it for rifle that you are useing? What kind of scope? How far are you shooting? Is this a new rifle? Was it broken in properly?

As far as telling you use this much powder and set the bullet depth at this measurment...This forum tends to stay away from recomending power charges but will recommend powder types
We just need more info to help you?

Sorry, I went into more detail on previous site and guess I forgot to when going here. I have a rem. S/A that was rebarreled to 260. Action was trued, trigger to 2.5 and 1-9 twist lilja installed. Will mainly be used for hunting deer, some hogs and coyotes. Not looking to break any accuracy records but would like to get the most out of it. I did do a break-in on it as lilja recomends but have noticed the later rounds fired are the ones that show some promise. Seems to always do better after 10-15 rounds no matter what load I am trying unless it just hates it. Have tried rem. 9 1/2, cci-br2 and am now using fed. 210m. Every time I think I have something going I can't seem to duplicate it. Don't know what to really do next. Feel like i'm wasting components now every time I go the range. I hope this gives you enough to go on. Most of the time in the past I have seating depth without alot of fuss, but I just get this feeling this is part of the problem. I don't know. Thanks for the help. And the action is 700. lcdc

Seating depth

? wondering how much room you have in the Magazine as this will most likely limit your seating depth for a 260 seating depth versus barrel freebore
can you seat your bullet out to contact the lans and still fit in magazine?

I do not know, but where I would start is making sure of the fit of the metal to the stock. make sure its bedded properly, no stress of the action fitting in the stock, no barrel pressure in the barrel channel, and make certain the scope is a repeatable scope that is secured proper. Brass prep is next, do you use a bushing die? How do the bullets feel when seating them into the case? they should feel the same every time. I have barrels that shoot better when the barrel is fowled, I think that is common. I would take the bullet that you want to shoot and seat it at .020 off the lands and test powder to that seating depth, try a few different charges, I would not put too much into primers yet, keep accurate records of your tests, when you narrow it down to a powder your gun likes, it may take a few try's with finding out the powder to use. When you find a powder it likes, test different seating depths and charges. good luck, Ron Tilley

I use a 260 for high-power silhouette, for short range I use 107 gr Sierra's with 36.0 gr or Varget and with 140 Sierra's I also use 36.0 gr of Varget, this is in a 10 twist barrel - both loads shoot uner 3/4 inch groups and the
140's are fast enough and transfer enough energy to knock over 60 pound steel rams at 500 meters.

This is pretty much the standard silhouette load for 260 shooters - and you did read it correctly, I do use the same powder charge for both bullet weights. This shows as a max load for the 140's so approach it cautiously in your rifle.

I have a model 7 and use 120 grain bal.tips with varget, never incountered any problems. Have you tried changing primers, sometimes that can help. Good luck to ya!

It seems to shoot a particular load good, say 1/2'' or less then when I repeat this load it might be 1.5''. This just seems to be the way it does. When this happens, I don't know what to do next because everything that went into this now means nothing. No i can't seat the bullet into lands and still load in magazine and the scope is leupold vari-III. As for being bedded properly I would think so because the smith that built the rifle did the job and he has a very very good rep. I know that does not eliminate the possibility but is unlikely as I have looked over the gun pretty good myself and looks to be a good job as for as metal touching and free barrel channel floating. Thanks for everthing and hopefully I will figure something out. lcdc.

I have problems with hunting rifles.
The variable of the skinny barrel, heavy bullet, and light gun is the difference.

If the barrel warps with heat, the groups are off.
If I don't handle the recoil the same way, the groups are off.

But a bull barrel with 33 gr bullet always acts the same.
