200yd score shooting scopes

opinions on what is a good scope for 200 yard score shooting? Rich's nighforce 15-55 was very nice but a little out of my price range. I learned quickly that my tasco 24x wasn't going to cut the mustard. I'm thinking a weaver T-36 but if you guys know any better scopes for around the same price I'm open for suggestions. Side note does anybody know where I can buy official U.B.R targets to practice on?

Mark. In that price range there are basically 3 scopes, the Weaver T36 that you mentioned, Sightron 36X, and a used B&L 36. The Bausch & Lomb can only be had in a used scope because they don't make them anymore, but it's still one Hell of a scope. Moving up in price to around 450-550 bucks used is the older Leupold BR36X. A pretty nice scope for a Leup. For around 600 bucks new is the Weaver T36XR with side focus.

Good to hear you got to shoot. And shot pretty good....That's a tough crowd down there.....
I use a Leupold 45X with a dot. That is with NBRSA and IBS targets. The dot lines up with the dot on the target. I also have a B&L 36 w/ 4X booster/magnifier(I shoot Group and VFS). All good.
I think, a few guys use the Weaver T-36 with the booster....But, you lose some eye relief. And will get banged by the scope. Ah, it's a bloody mess...Bring some band-aids....

Call them. And make sure your git the thin rubber boot. It helps, if the threads wear out. And helps with the blood nose....You will need a new rear lens cover.

I don't see any reason that a T-36 will not adequately suit your needs. As for practicing, why not just make copies of the center portion of a clean target from your shoot and tape them to any backing paper you have?

As far as practice targets go Manila file folder paper is a decent target paper. Get a cheap plastic stencil to use to mark the dots on paper
 
i made a master copy "2 ring and a dot" on 8.5x11,
5x5 with 2 sighters under each row.
make practice targets on my copier
using 67lb paper stock.
 
The Weaver 36 will be entirely adequate. Truth is, any 36 power scope would be OK if it doesn't move around on you.

Weaver T36's will work. I still have a few but can't see bullet holes at 200 anymore. I shot a UBR match this summer using a Leupold LCS 45 with a 3X multiplier and still couldn't see holes at 200. So, what scope you need is dependent on your ability to see the last hole.

That is because you put them all in one hole.

I have 6 T36 scopes and the Bulz/eye adopter that makes them all 45 power, just switch it to the rifle you are using.

Wilber, there some high dollar variables that move around but the company will not admit to it. The Valdada 36 is one of the best scopes i every had....... jim
 
Yes Sir....scopes are one of the weak links and for sure some are better than others when you're taking that chance. Plain truth is that a 36X Tasco would serve the same purpose in short range Benchrest as a 36X Valdata given that neither wandered. Sadly, the Tasco has been known to wander.

I'll admit that I really don't know what I'm talking about here but have a question. When folks glue/lock their scopes and spend real cash money on the adjustable mounts....why don't they choose a cheaper scope to glue up rather than an expensive Leupold?

it is the glass. Besides mechanicals, cost is in the lenses. Biggest problem is until you buy it, you don't know either.
