.17s involved anywhere?

I realize that the 22LR is the mainstream ammo type for current rimfire competition, especially with the many match grades available.

I was simply curious to know, are there any uses for the .17s in the competition world?

No sanctioned matches to my knowledge. Rimfire Central has email matches. They have had a .17 cal. match. Don't know if anybody shoots it or not. You may want to check it out over there.

We tried it locally. First match had about 14 shooters including myself. It became clear that your rifle either shot the ammo available good, or it didn't. With no ammo options and shooters not willing to put money into match barrels and just basically making a benchrest rifle, it died a quick death and we continued shooting .22's in our benchrest matches.

.17 HMR great for egg shoots

I will try and get to one or two egg shoots a year. The rimfire division has the eggs at 100 yards. Without enough recoil to matter, you can watch the eggs break. The matches I attend have a 9x power limit on the scopes and I wish we could use more.
