    We Haven't Had A Good Car Thread In A While...........My '67 Chevelle

First Muscle Car? An excerpt from an article on the pre-WWII Buick Century: COMPOUND CARBURETION Curtice and Chayne had an even hotter Century up their sleeves. For 1941, larger Buicks got a redesigned “Fireball 8” with a higher 7.0:1 compression ratio, smaller spark plugs, and “Compound...

    We Haven't Had A Good Car Thread In A While...........My '67 Chevelle

First Muscle Car? Another "first muscle car candidate" for some of us older folks: 1939 Buick Century. Often called "the first muscle car" or "the banker's hot rod," the Century combined the smaller Special body with the 320-cubic-inch eight, putting out 141 horsepower with "compound...

    Body Die with Lee Collet

I (1) Use a de-capping die to remove the spent primer, (2) Clean the case in a sonic cleaner, which also cleans the primer pocket, (3) Resize the case in the body die and (4) Neck size with the collet die. I have never tried to use the collet die first, but offhand don't see why it wouldn't...

    Body Die with Lee Collet

I've been resizing .17/204 brass using a Redding .204R body die and .17 Rem Lee collet die that I already had on hand in lieu of buying a custom die. Rifle is shooting sub-half inch 5-shot groups at 100 yds. with this ammo. No problems whatever and don't expect any. I size full length with the...

    friggin' awesome

Bore Scope The instructions included with these bore scopes is very poor. I struggled with mine until I read the tips thread over on AccurateShooter.com: http://forum.accurateshooter.com/threads/teslong-bore-scope-tips.3989755/ Results since have been very good. I have the one with the USB port...

    Re-barreling Winchester model 1892

M 1892 Winchester .25/20 A long time ago I bought a M 92 .25/20 rifle with 24" octagon barrel with a very pitted bore. Shot factory ammo very poorly. I wanted to keep the octagonal barrel and ended up sending it to P O Ackley's shop in Salt Lake City and having the original barrel rebored and...

    We Haven't Had A Good Car Thread In A While...........My '67 Chevelle

Seems like an incredible bargain today, but then I remember that in 1969 I was making $535 a month as a project engineer for a major oil company. Shows how much the politicians have devalued our Dollar.

Butyl Tires Butch, were Bucrons the tires with Butyl rubber tread? If so, I put a pair on the rear of the '61 Pontiac Ventura, 389 TriPower and 4-speed for supposed better traction. The treads just slobbered away under power. Didn't make that mistake again!

    We Haven't Had A Good Car Thread In A While...........My '67 Chevelle

Ford Passenger Car Hydraulic Brakes Ford passenger cars changed from rod operated to cable operated mechanical brakes for the 1937 and 1938 model years. It was not until the 1939 model year that Ole Henry changed to Lockheed manufactured hydraulic brakes for the cars...

    We Haven't Had A Good Car Thread In A While...........My '67 Chevelle

Thanks for the kind words! Sadly I don't think any pics of the '36 Ford have survived. We have a ton of old photos that have not been sorted or cataloged for many years. I'll see if I can find anything of interest. I'm sure there are some pics of the '61 Pontiac Ventura hardtop with Tri-Power, 4...

Juice Brakes This was a faily common conversion back in the day. The '36 Ford Tudor I bought in 1952 was so equipped along with a '48 Merc flathead and column shift tranny. Not great brakes by today's standards, but a vast improvement over the original mechanicals. Vic

    Accurite?

Acurite I bought an Acurite temperature and humidity unit a couple of years ago. The temperature and humidity readings from the remote were wildly inaccurate. After several attempts to get warranty replacement from the manufacturer I gave up and bought a La Crosse Technology unit. Works so well...

Here is something that might never happen again in my lifetime.

Snow In Houston Although I never officially "lived" in Houston, I commuted to work there for many years in the 1970's and 1980's. In on Monday morning and out on Friday afternoon. I can remember at least 3 times there were snow or ice storms. A hog on ice has nothing on Houstonian drivers on a...

    My new Turtle Killer

Turtle Killer I feed the catfish and bream in my farm pond daily with a floating fish food. The darn turtles have started swimming up and fighting the fish for food. Have to thin them out every once in a while! When you shoot their heads off the turtles tend to sink making recovery pretty much...

Remington 40x/700 canjar single set trigger

Canjar Trigger No question there have been better triggers developed since the Canjar for short range benchrest competition. However, I bought a used Canjar single set trigger some 30 years ago for use on a long range prairie dog rifle and still use it today. It is one of my favorite triggers...

Harrells or RAS AR-15 muzzle breaks/tuners experience?

AR-15 Tuner The Lilja 204R barrel is threaded 1/2"-28 TPI like most AR-15's. I've thought about cutting the ported section off in a lathe or even pressing a sleeve on over the ports. Either way I'd be altering the weight of the tuner, which might change the "tunability" considerably. Maybe...
