    Bore Guide

Read an article about using a Cleaning Rod Guide in the action of your rifle so I made one up for my Sako. Wondering about what happens at the Muzzle when the Brush exits the bore, the rod has to drop down and rub on the crown. Thinking I need a Guide out there also. Any help or advice is...

    Bad Factory Barrel

Just a guess but if whoever Bead Blasted the outside put Steel Hooks in the bore to hold it while blasting and those Hooks had rough saw cuts on the ends I could imagine that kind of damage. David

Got the barrel off last night after a week of coaxing. Now the fun begins! David

Pulling the barrel on a Sake L46

Good news as the barrel came off last night. I use a Heat Gun to warm the receiver to where spit will sizzle, spray penetrating oil and set up a vibration with a hammer. Took a week of doing that. There is a burr on the shoulder of the barrel from where it was torqued. Barrel still has the...

Pulling the barrel on a Sake L46

Thanks for the advice. I have it locked in the vice with the Action Wrench leaning to the left with a weight on it. I will gently tap it and use Ed's Red on it every time I pass by. Want to save the barrel otherwise I would relieve the shoulder. No hurry on my part. David

Pulling the barrel on a Sake L46

Short story is it won't come loose. A Dead Blow Hammer on a 3 foot bar doesn't do anything. I figure it may have been together for almost 60 years so for now I will Soak it and keep trying. Any suggestions? David

    700 Triggers

O.K. going to suggest that you check the fit of the Pins. For my own rifles and those are the only ones I will work on the trigger, I make new pins that are a "tap in fit" and then Lap out the trigger to just slide through. My theory is any lost motion lets the mating surfaces shift around. I...

    Vintage Benchrest or Target Rifles

So Murphy raised his ugly head. Brass won't chamber, and the extractor won't snap over the groove. Trying to pull the barrel as I can see where the extractor is rubbing on the end of the barrel and the damn thing won't budge. But considering it has been together for 60 years what was I...

    Vintage Benchrest or Target Rifles

Still figuring out what this rifle will do. Thanks for the information. I am wondering if 62 gr bullets will shoot out of it. So far I have taken the mounts apart, packed with old hard grease. Brass hasn't showed up yet which is good cause I have other work to do. Still leaning on keeping...

    Vintage Benchrest or Target Rifles

Thanks for the Information. I just ordered some Brass and will as time permits see what works. Miss Precision Shooting as there was no B.S. in the articles. First on the list is a Chamber Cast. Them Squaring Up the Lugs. Interesting, whoever barreled it did not even face off the end before...

    Vintage Benchrest or Target Rifles

I went looking for a Lyman STS Scope and found one attached to a Sako Single shot Rifle in .222 Mag. So I got the whole package and it sparked an interest in what was State of the Art back in the 50's and 60's. Is there anyone out there that would be able to shed some light on them? Thanks, David
