    In My Tool Box

This protractor was passed on to me at the shipyard. I had little use for it, but hung on it because of the transfer of ownership and date. The war had been over for 20 years and this was still floating around the machine shop. When people retired they often sold or gave tools to friends in...

    C.O.R.N.Y. virus, Dakota variant....

Al, real nice photos. I use to have my grandkids help in the loading room and they learned the whole process. I let them take a whiff of Hoppe's #9 bore cleaner as it is a smell you won't forget. We then started out talking about safety and shooting cardboard boxes with an air rifle. I...

    Guess Your Nut Size

David,You are correct. It is a 1/2 x 9/16 wrench so why doesn't it just say that? The only reference to an actual nut size is 1/4 on the 1/2 end of the wrench. I'm sure this tool had a specific use....but what? Mort

    Guess Your Nut Size

This recently cleaned-up wrench which belonged to my father has some interesting characteristics. One side reads, The Billings and Spencer Co, Hartford Conn. USA, and the bottom has the numbers 1111 725 B. Flip it over, and the large end says 3/8 cap and 3/8 S.A.E. The small end reads 5/16 CAP...

    An interesting Savage 99 project

Doug My dad's hunting rifle was a FN Mauser 30-06. It had a small 2.5 power scope on it that I replaced with a Weaver K4. He liked that much better. I don't remember if the scope I replaced was a Lyman or not. I traded a 32 Rem. 336 for a 300 Savage 99. Wanted something with more power...

    Moore Scraping Method

When I was working at the shipyard, I was taught how to scrape by a tall slim good old boy from Texas. He was easy to get along with and had a lot of patience. We were doing high-pressure steam casing flanges for the aircraft carrier Midway. There were four boiler rooms so we had 8 casing...

    .220 Swift Norma brass question

Sorry about the bum information. I haven't found anything that doesn't require a backorder, and even more so if you specify Winchester. There were some used cases that sold on Gun Broker last month. $35 for 60 cases. Will keep you in mind in case I stumble on something. Mort
