    Hey guys

This guy was the driver of our prime mover for the 105 Howitzer. He was a fun and laidback guy who could less about conforming. He never went to the brig but made Pvt 3 times. On a four-year enlistment you might have enough time to accomplish that. I took this picture in 1960 but can't say...

Guys used to steal Tabasco from the mess hall to use on the " C Rations ". Nothing in there to cover the taste but you got a little pack of cigarettes which was a good trade item. Mort

One of Our Repair Jobs You Might Like

Jackie, as always I really enjoy your info and photos that show what machinist work entails when working in a shipyard. I did some work on ship shafting and rudders in the shop but never touched a prop. We had a submarine in dry dock where the prop or screw had already been fitted and I was...

What is the most accurate factory rifle you've owned?

Accurate 30-06 This is a FN 30-06 that belonged to my father. It's a Mauser action with a High Standard chrome lined barrel. These were sold by Sears' which is where he purchased it sometime during the Korean War. That's not after-market lumber. It had a couple small dings where...

    In My Tool Box

i Know Jackie used calipers enough to be comfortable with them on close measurements. I never was unless there was plenty of material to remove and I would check against a ruler. On a bore a 1 to 12 inch inside mic would be used. That measurement would be checked against an outside mic GENTLY...

Jim, I wore a glove today.....

Al, I made this for the chuck key. It's right at eye level and I don't have to look for it. Mort

What is the most accurate factory rifle you've owned?

My most accurate factory rifle is a Remington 722 .222. I glassed the action with a kit from Herter's and adjusted the trigger. That's all it took to shoot a .560 5 shot group from a bench. Mort

My latest “project” restoring a large vintage steam engine Governor

I'm sure your wife wouldn't mind one in your front yard,or maybe out back somewhere. Some of these engines were mounted on narrow gage flatcars for logging. Not sure how that assembly would pass muster. On the serious side I don't know how many of these engines you would find in your area.They...
