Hello, Could I have messed up my remington 700 action or bolt?

Your owners manual has instructions on stripping/cleaning the bolt assembly. Doing this, and learning the mechanics of your bolt will help you if this ever happens again. Ben

    Torque to yeild bolts

No, as a fastener is torqued and removed, there is wear. Every time you return to a marked position, the clamping force is reduced. That is why a fastener should be retorqued every cycle, or stretched to a specified force, if force is to stay constant. To determine if a fastener is yielded, you...

    22-250 barrel life

Boyd, Do you think it would be correct to say...... holding the bore size constant, barrel life decreases as a function of an increase in powder burned.? Bill Morrison told me the other day that he had a 220 swift with 3500 rounds and it still shot "well, but not always x's" ....as he put it...

Bronze brush. yes, or no way!! ????

Al, I always run my last patch light oil in the bore...I know..I know.. I can still hear my father preaching...it's just a habit. It also necessitates sighting in. The dry patch is more practical. Rifle and snowmobile loaded for camp, bait will be out on the lake tonight... and miles to go...

    Educate Me On Benchrest Stocks

Generally flat and wide on the forearm bottom to ride in a bag/front rest. Generally Lightweight and of an obscene color. Read about the benchrest rules, with respect to rifle construction. This will help you understand what constitutes benchrest stock/rifle...

Bronze brush. yes, or no way!! ????

Has anyone tried storing their bronze brushes in water, oil or some other nuetralizer? I find that butches eats them up pretty fast.

    Parkerizing question

OK thanks, I know there is a way of doing it in a shorter time frame, but not sure the process. A 90 year old gunsmith gave me the name of a product, that was no longer available that parkerized green. Can't remember the name of it though. Ben

    Parkerizing question

How do you get the green parkerizing color? All of my pieces come out dark grey to black. I've tried both phosphate solutions with the same result. The green military color, similar to what you see on a Garand is my goal. One tip I recieved was to coat the part in cosmoline and work it in the...

    bbl removal help

Mike, I struggled terribly with the first few barrels I removed, then I got set up. I frequently have to machine 2" cubic T6061 blocks in a 4 jaw to fit certain bbl contours, then I slit them in the mill with a slitting saw. Drill the hole the size of the bbl measured 2" from the action...

    High pressure - LOW velocity

FWIW, I have been allowing .003" neck clearance on my 6.5 and a bullet slides into the brass after its fired very easily, maybe 1 lb force..I just went and checked. Will be interested in what the bore/groove dia that was stamped on this bbl.

    A Tale Of Three Chrony's

Holy moly Al! 4031 out of a 30 cal bullet! I'd like to see what that did to a coyote. Wouldn't give them much time to duck.

    What is my next step?

Well, I got this rifle sorted. It was the stock. Thinking about what Mike said above, I did notice the front action screw didn't "break" like it should. It too 2 revs before i could switch the allen wrench around and use the fast end. Dial indicator moves .030"...bed looked good but was...

    Speaking of the 22-250.......

Mine shoots well either way with the CT 50 grain ballistic tips. It also shoots sierra match and blitz well. Vmax are more erratic. 41 gr H380 with the 50's 14 twist This is my 3rd 22-250 The die is set, I just let it jump liberally...not world record accuracy, but holes usually touch or...

    Lapua Brass

You have 11 rifles that shoot the 7.62x54 Russian rimmed case? The case is rimmed, so I'm curious of the action your using, and what necking down has been done with this case, I've not heard much about it up my way. I was thinking it might be interesting necked down to 6.5mm or 7mm.

Jackie, Have you ever done anything with the Lapua 7,62x53R/54 Russian case? Might be interesting to work something up.

    Novice end mill question..

The 2 fluted mills are sharpened a few times on a bench grinder. The 4 fluted mills can be touched up carefully with a dremel grinder and stone. It takes a little practice.

    Ruger No 1 ??

Al is completely correct. It's a red herring. I messed with a 1V in 25-06 forearm for months and never got it to shoot. A friend has an old style 30-06 that shoots 1/2", but it is out of the norm for #1's I say the bbl is no good on the 25-06. Ben
