    Polyalphaolefin (POA)

Not to be a smart*** but it's PAO, not POA. POA on a gun forum means Point Of Aim.;)

Central Utah Benchrest is Holding Group Match May 2nd & 3rd

100 yard portion is done tonight. Norm Cox won the the SP100, and Dave Woodward won the UL100 in some pretty stiff wind. Good shooting gentlemen! Keep it up tomorrow!:)

    BIG difference in LT-32 lots

Yep yep. That's pretty bad. I've not shot a kernel of Lt-32, but I ALWAYS chronograph the new lots of all the powders I shoot to compare them with others, and they vary greatly sometimes. I've had lots of N133 vary 200 fps!!! That's like the difference between a .223 and a .22-250!

    Turned a lotta necks

Oops, sorry. It looks like we were typing at the same time.:o Yes, the problem was in the bolt, the shroud, the pin, the spring, the handle, and the sear. Basically, it was a total disaster!

    Turned a lotta necks

I should also mention that Butch Fjoser heard about my struggles the first couple of days at the Nationals, and he donated one of his barrels to me to see if that would help. I offered to pay for it because I was desperate to try anything, but he wouldn't take a penny. What a guy that...

    Turned a lotta necks

Absolutely positive it was the action. It's quite the story actually how we diagnosed it if you care to hear it? If not, read no further... I'm embarrassed to say that it wasn't even me who diagnosed it. And I'm the dumb one who didn't take the first hint when right out of the box the bolt...

    Turned a lotta necks

I switched to a .271" neck a few years ago and a couple respected shooters (including one HOFer) told me not to do it. I did it anyway as some of my earlier tests with other calibers showed no loss of accuracy with the thicker necks. So I ordered up a new action and built a new gun to run my...

    BAT 3 lug actions

You are correct Boyd. That very article spawned the theory that 3 was better than 2. However, theory and real world results don't always agree to the extent that somebody trying to sell you something would have you believe. That was my point and precisely why I said one would have a hard time...

    BAT 3 lug actions

Well, Colorado is right next door.....;) But seriously, top shooters win with anything on or off this list. I know Todd likes moly (which hardly anyone uses), and I like XBR (which hardly anyone uses), and they were both touted to change the benchrest world when they first got started. My...

    BAT 3 lug actions

Bat 3 lugs were all the rage a few years ago. Not so much anymore. We can add them to the list of benchrest fads that were advertised to change the world but fell just a little short such as Moly bullets, double vane flags, gain twist barrels, tuners, XBR, Lt-32, Edge stocks, March Scopes, and...

Potential New World Record Shot by Gary Ocock - ** NEW** Sta-Moly Precision Jackets

As much as I like Gary and would like to see him get another WR, I have a sneaking suspicion this won't do it for him. Those in the "know" know why. Nevertheless, it is fun to talk about "pending" WR's while the targets are being scrutinized.

    Chargemaster combo..... (a few questions)

I'm not sure why, but powder throwers are not all created equal, even within same brands. Some will throw better than others all the time, some will throw certain kinds of powder better than others, and some just plain can't keep anything under .3 grain. Your method can affect the result, but...

    Chargemaster combo..... (a few questions)

Scott, I have used the Chargemaster nearly every day since it first came out. I've worn out two of them. When I first started taking them to the matches, nobody else was using them. Now, they are quite prevalent. But, I have since gone back to throwing from a Harrells straight into the...

    Powder Choice

Since I seem to be one of the lucky few in the world who can actually get XBR to shoot equally well or better than N133, I would have to pick between those two. Since N133 is now so pricey, I'd probably get the XBR, unless the N133 was a known "good" lot. Haven't burned a kernel of LT32 yet...

    Super Shoot and small groups

No Calvin, you're not a nobody! That title is reserved for somebody who self proclaimed it a bit after you did.;) You compete (I know 'cause I've seen you at the matches) and therefore, you are not a nobody in my book.:) And you make some mighty good points! I will add a few more to the...

    Super Shoot and small groups

Agreed. What I found odd about the whole thing was that this thread was initially brought up to bring to our attention that March's were responsible for 3 of the 4 small group awards in the 2014 SS under the banner to "shoot the best, shoot a March". Yet, Leupolds took the majority of the...
