    .17s involved anywhere?

I realize that the 22LR is the mainstream ammo type for current rimfire competition, especially with the many match grades available. I was simply curious to know, are there any uses for the .17s in the competition world?

    reactive target suggestions

Alinwa, Good stories. Reminds me all too much of the many rural blasting memories I have. As for ammonium nitrate, it's still not illegal to possess or sell. They have just tried placing certain restrictions on agricultural sellers to try and bottleneck the flow into peoples hands. But the...

    reactive target suggestions

Al, Cold packs are probably an expensive source for AN. You want to buy hydroponic fertilizer in bags, in prilled form. It would be 34-0-0 for pure AN, and make sure it is pure. I haven't looked in a while, but you could get 20lb bags of ammonium nitrate prills on eBay for about $50 over a year...

    reactive target suggestions

If the ingredients in the binary reactive targets are legal to mix on-site and use as a target, I wonder if a non-commercial version of the same product would still remain legal to use for a target. They are pretty expensive to purchase, but the ingredients can be had very cheap.

    Controlled Round Feed

What is happening when you forget to feed it through the mag that makes accuracy decrease? I would have posted some close-up photos, but my digital camera sensor seems to have bit the dust. Here is the best way to describe the bolt face and extractor. Picture a shell holder, with one side of...

    Neck Turn Length

Al Nyhus, That sounds like a good technique you describe. Forgive me please, because I am just beginning precision reloading, and am still figuring all of this stuff out. I ordered the Redding Competition micrometer neck sizer die the other day. It has not arrived yet. Can I bump the shoulder...

    Controlled Round Feed

I have been reading the thread, and noticed the last post about a MK X extractor. I can't seem to turn anything up in a search, though. I imagine my best bet is probably to find one of those extractors, so it will be cut just right and ready to go. Any guesses on who might have one of those...

    High-BC .277 bullets exist?

Thanks for the comments guys. It all makes perfect sense. I think I am going to re-barrel this project gun of mine in the 280.

    High-BC .277 bullets exist?

I knew the demand wasn't as great for the .277, but I assumed that Berger, selling to people often with custom twist rates or barrels, would go with heavier .277 bullets to offer...at least a 160gr. This would fill the 6.5-7mm gap quite nicely it would appear. I'll admit, though, that it is...

Thank you for starting a thread there.

    High-BC .277 bullets exist?

Why does a gap exist in bullet performance between 6.5mm and 7mm, with the 6.8 bullet line? For instance, 6.5mm has the 140gr with a .640 BC, 7mm has the 180gr at .680, yet 6.8 only has the 150gr at .580. Why are there no 170gr .277 bullets available?

    Controlled Round Feed

Can you explain any more about this? I can see where a spring loaded extractor will snap over the rim. But this extractor does not move outward any, it only rotates. What I'm getting at is, if you ground it open so that it would not block the bolt face, then it would no longer extract either.

    Controlled Round Feed

If you are familiar with this action, and say that it is possible to feed without the magazine, then I am confused. There is the rim catch on the right side, which rotates on the exterior of the bolt. The rim catch effectively blocks a portion of the bolt face if viewed from the front. The...

    Controlled Round Feed

I have an FN Mauser 98 large ring action which has CRF. It is chambered in .270 Win. I would like to build the gun into a long-range rifle capable of precision shooting. My first possible problem arose when thinking about the CRF requiring magazine insertion of the rounds. I want to re-chamber...

Is this press OK for precision?

I would like to begin precision reloading a few calibers. To me, it seems like the press just supplies the force, and the dies create the precision. Is this true? I am also reloading for 416 Barrett, so I need a large press able to handle BMG dies. Here is my question, can I used one...

    Bench Rest Pistols

Ah, you need to read here: http://specialtypistols.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/frm/f/3826077864 There are many stocks and etc available for building custom bench pistols. I am getting ready to build one for deer season on a Savage action. This photo inspired the stock design I will use:

Because then I would have to walk back to the bench. ;)

Please help me design my Shooting Bench

I just finished my 500 yard bench today. I used five 4x4 legs concreted into the ground. The top is two sheets of 7/16" plywood laminated together, outside dimensions were kept 4'x8', in a double-T configuration. There is a 2x4 frame built around the top of the leg posts, to level and brace the...

    Nighttime Bench Shooting

I didn't really think about running the generator. I guess it would be cheaper, since I already have that. I just figured it would be a little easier shining a powerful light from the bench, but your method would definitely provide better lighting on the target. I will try that instead.

    Wireless Video Transmitters

Some people lately seemed to be interested in wireless video camera systems, yet weren't quite sure where to find the transmitters to use at 600-1500 yards. So I figured I would make mention that the systems which should work at those distances are available here...
