    New BBL:..187 BIB

I just measuerd a WSM case...total neck length is .250.....if you put the psi ring .050 up from the neck shoulder junction, you only have .2 neck above the PSI ring. With my WBY case I have .21 above the PSI ring with the bullet just kissing the lands....there is more neck/bullet contact above...

    New BBL:..187 BIB

Lynn, Ok, I've got some dumb questions....."pressure ring"...best I can gather on the 187 BIB's that I have...the majority of the bearing seface has a diameter of .3075. Right at the base of the bullet I detect a flair which measures .3085. Can I assume that this is the "pressure ring"...

Ackley is out.....300 Wby is ugly twin to the Ackley....pretty much. Thanks, You may get a PM some day when I am closer to figuring out the feebore and basic chamber setup. Not sure if my currant 300 WBY reamer will work. It is set up so that the boattail ojive on a 210 Berger VLD is flush...

    New BBL:..187 BIB

Mike, I guess You lost me on that one. I have a 2 WSM tubes and have no problems with PSI. They are a 10 twist Spencer and an 11 twist Krieger...no issues with either. I do know that the powder charge is not much different with the 187 than what I use with a 210 before I get to the PSI signs...

    Scopr magnification?

I used a 40x leupold in 2009. I had only one gun and was messing around with 6" wide front rails. I needed to get rid of some weight, so I got rid of the NSX and went to the Leupold. I quit using the plate right before the IBS Nationals in Pella, IA, but kept the scope. I think I finished...

Front Rest Stop -- Use or Not Use

Use it....every time. There are enough variables in the shooting game, why add one more? The pros...you will shoot better. The cons...you will shoot worse. Don't you just love a simple answer?? :D

    6mmbr brass prep

Lynn. I guess I didn't know that about the flash holes on the Lupua brass. I was told many years ago that the flash holes were indeed drilled....I will need to do some measuring. I still do stand by my statement that I have never seen a bur in a piece of Norma or Lapua brass. Also, I...

    6mmbr brass prep

Oh ya, the comp comment...I forgot which fourm I was on...I though I was on the LR hunting website. A lot of the stuff I do I need to explain away by saying that I shoot comp..other wise i get some (vertual) blank stares...same with the "F" class crowd...I just get strainge looks when I start...

    6mmbr brass prep

I don't see where I said anything about not doing primer pockets..in fact I said "Primer pockets, yes" Now, tell me, what are you going to do with the flash holes? Make them bigger.....smaller? I don't have a clue what one would do with the flash holes. Now, on the cheap brass...read...

What Bat action model for 1000yd would you use?

My two light guns are 8.5" "M"...one a 1.55 round and one a multi flat. If you are going to go with a BR/Dasher in this action you will need to get it set up properly.......Sako extractor and the angled ejection port. Otherwise the long action will not eject the brass. Talk to the guys at BAT...

    Sorting bullets by surface length?

I basicly grab 10 bullets, measure them, find the "middle", and set my dial indicator to zero using that bullet, and continue to measure the rest of the bullets. Different lots of bullets vary. I had ONE box of 100 105 VLD's, and only one box, that had nearly a twenty thou spred (+.010 to...

    Sorting bullets by surface length?

Yes, I did win the IBS 1K two gun Overall, LG group, and LG overall, 2nd in HG score, and sixth in LG score. ALL of my bullets were sorted by bearing serface length using Bill Shehanes "device". But, and maybe the rest of this belongs in another post....but, all of the questions I asked in...

    Sorting bullets by surface length?

Charles, Sorry you pulled your posts. Your last post states that you gave a report on actual chrono variation done. All I remember is you stating that we need lots of wire (I was assuming you ment for he chronograph) to make the test. Since I have a short memory I can not quote you...

    Sorting bullets by surface length?

LorenC, You are 100 % correct.......bearing serface has 0% effect on catridge OAL when measured from the ojive, provided that your bullet seater uses the ojive of the bullet as its "reference point", for lack of a better term. If a bullet has a longer bearing serface, you will just end up...

    Sorting bullets by surface length?

Charles, You just disproved your own point..."2. Usually, I've found that the (the) greatest variance in the length of the bullet occurs between the ojive and the tip (of the nose). ........Depending on how your seating die sets up, that affects jam/jump." The jump/ jam is measured FROM the...

    Sorting bullets by surface length?

I don't think you need lots of wire....just sort a box of 1000 bullets...shoot the 10 (or 20, 030, or.....) with the shortest bearing serface and 10 with the longest out to 1k....you will have your answer. You will know if there is a difference in muzzle velocity, and you will know if there is a...

    Sorting bullets by surface length?

Sorry, I was replying to Charles E asking about jump/jam vs bearing serface. Like I also said, I use Bill Shehanes system. I can get through 1000 bullets fairly quickly. Most improtant to me....there is no wondering if I did it right...very confident in my results!!

    Sorting bullets by surface length?

Bearing serface has no relationship to jump or jam. Once you have your bullet seater set up for x.xxx lenght, any variance in bullet length or bearing serface will show up INSIDE the case.....if a bullet is .003 longer, or has .003 more bearing serface it is just pushed into the case .003 more...
