    Ogive Variance

Thanks Lynn Thanks for starting this thread ! It's great ! I just checked the difference between my seating stems(RCBS, Redding) and they vary greatly from my ogive measurement of my Hornady guage. Now the question is where can I get a stem that seats the bullet by the ogive measurement ...

    17 cal. rim fire

Stick with the Hornady 17gr. I tried Federal, and CCI, and one of those would'nt hit the paper plate at 100yds. The Hornady was the best hands down. I have some 20gr Hornady, but they did'nt group as good as the 17gr, out of my Savage. Good Luck Jim

Which tools needed nxt & SUPER RCBS deal!

I shot about the same setup as you, back in the 80's. Clean your bore properly. I bought a good scope , a Leupold 8x. Went to a 40gr Vmax, and cut my groups in half. There is more you can do, but if you start there, that should help. Good Luck Jim

    Remington 513T

I actually have the 510 which has the single shot loading ramp. My concern was if the bolt would handle the pressure. The bolt face would have to be milled. I also worried about the extractors! A Geen Mountain barrel was to be my choice. I guess a 17m2 would be a much better choice...

    223 to 17 fireball ?

I've been trying unsuccessfully to form 17fireball brass from 223 brass. I start with a 221 trim die, no problem. I turn the necks, and neck size to 20, no problem. Then when I size to 17 fireball, they nearly all wrinkle. How much wrinkle can I get by with ? How do you guys do it ? Thanks...

    Reformed brass trimming

I have a neck turner on my trimmer. It works fine. Have'nt shot any of these casings yet. I'm a littler nervous because I have'nt annealed them. Have'nt tried a hacksaw for cutting, It may be the best way to go. Just looking for other ideas ! Thanks for the input guys !!! Jim

    Reformed brass trimming

To date, I size with a trim die, and use a table saw with an abrasive blade, to trim the lions share, and then finish in a Forster trimmer. I just thought someone may have a faster, better, and safer setup. The table saw works, but rather dangerous ! As far as annealing, thats my next project !

    Reformed brass trimming

I've reformed a few 223 to 221 fireball. There is quite a bit of brass to remove to bring them into spec. What do you guys use to trim the brass ? Seems like someone should make a setup that would fit a hand crank trimmer, and cut the brass like a pipe cutter. And leave it at correct length...

    Ogive Bullet Measurements ?

Thanks guys for the Great imput ! Thanks Larry for the link, I really like your digital headspace gauge ! I got out my S.P. comparator and did some checking. First the Vmax were fine, the ones I had trouble with were old Remington hollow points. After checking the COL, I had variation...

    Ogive Bullet Measurements ?

I will have more time tomorrow, to nail down more exact measurements, I'll also check the primers. I guess if I sorted by the ogive, after I had them loaded, I'd be better off. Thanks guys ! Jim

    Ogive Bullet Measurements ?

Hi John I have a Stoney Point Comparator. Everything was snug, and the COL was consistant Just the measurement , from the base of the case to the ogive on the seated bullet was inconsistant. This is a 223, with 50gr. bullets. Jim
