    Contact info Gordon Eck gunsmith

I took out the Eck sporter today for some Boy Scouts to shoot after they qualified for their rifle shooting merit badge. Shooting the IR50/50 target set at 50 yds. I sat and watched thru a spotting scope as one after another were routinely hitting 10s and with quite a few Xs shooting some of the...

    Contact info Gordon Eck gunsmith

I remember when Gordon had just finished building the sporter for Greg Davis. I was at the range practicing with my 10.5 lb rifle and he handed me that sporter and asked me to shoot it and tell him what I thought. After shooting it I told him that it was the best shooting rimfire rifle I've ever...

    Sad news

So sorry to hear this. Bob "The Termite" Raide was a great competitor and a fun guy to be around. I enjoyed shooting with him always. If I'm not mistaken, he won both IR50/50 6 Gun Nationals that he entered. He may not have been as keen on traveling all over to the big matches across the country...

Rimfire Benchrest rifles (Calfee SPEC rifles)

The Time Precision rifle may still be produced. There is still a website (see link). When I started in our local non-sanctioned matches, there were a couple of guys shooting them. I remember them being famous (or infamous) for being very hard to load. Some would use fuse holders to load them...

Rimfire Benchrest rifles (Calfee SPEC rifles)

Not all those SPEC rifles elicited as much fear for everyone. I spent much of my time in rimfire benchrest competing against Spec 4 - Merlin. The fellow who bought it competed quite often in the NE. It was routinely beaten and the original owner who shot it for many years has a total of 7 HOF...

Keep checking the Classifieds In the near future I will be putting up for sale here in the classifieds my Eck smithed, Stiller 2500X, Rock Creek, TMBR stocked 10.5 lb class rifle (The UnCalfee). The reason it will be up for sale is I have retired from competitive shooting. Someone will be...

Doug Weeter left the range today.

Bye Doug I too only check this site every 2-3 weeks since retiring from the sport and was shocked to read this news. I remember Doug fondly. He was one of the good guys for sure. I'm glad I met him and happy that I got the chance to shoot with him. So sorry to hear of his passing. My...

    Sightron - Nightforce

I used Sightrons when I shot rimfire BR. I liked them. There isn't one miss that I could say was attributed to the scope. I used one for over 10 years.

    IR50 10 Shot

Oh, let me guess what the new game is about. Based on all the whining I've been reading, to make everybody happy, it's gotta be the same 25 bull target as always but only your ten best shots count. Each target will have 15 mulligans! This way those nasty ammo flyers won't keep anyone from...

    275 scoring in 50/50

I honestly can't remember what the other close scores were. But I know no one that day can honestly say there were aiming for that X. When shooting a sporter, where you can't see the 10 ring much less the X in that 6.5X scope and with conditions so windy that the hold-off was off the last ring...

    275 scoring in 50/50

When the winds are horrible and everyone is struggling to hit the 10 ring I can guarantee you no one on the line is shooting for Xs, they are lucky happenstance. Everybody is just hoping to hit that 10 ring. If that's gaming, then I was guilty of that when I won the sporter target at the 2011...

    275 scoring in 50/50

Sorry for being so blunt Tony, but hogwash!! Explain to me how it makes any sense for someone to forgo shooting for the X on an IR50/50 target but rather try to shoot for the outer parts of the 10 ring? When you shoot for the center X and you slightly miss and you still hit the 10, (yeah!)...

    275 scoring in 50/50

You wouldn't want it. What I've got is some very expensive Eley Match plinking ammo. I wouldn't feel good about selling it to anyone and since I've got it, I might was well practice up with my pistol and get some use out of it.

    275 scoring in 50/50

No, I'm into skeet shooting and pistol shooting these days. I'm using my .22 pistol to shoot up all the cases of mediocre ammo I purchased over all those years in BR.

    275 scoring in 50/50

There's plenty of challenge to IR50/50. How many 250-25X targets have been shot?? The sporter game is a huge challenge for the shooter. It seems that most of the complaints about IR50/50 has to do with the sporter being too hard that many don't want to bother with it. Some may use the expense...

The worth while changes to IR 50/50 / attendance increase

I've retired from the sport, but I still have some interest in it. It seems to me that what many shooters want is to make IR50/50 easier. I know, I know, it's hard to shoot sporters, it's harder to shoot off a 2 piece rest, it's harder to shoot only during the day (when the winds actually...

    "The Golden Bull"

There are no mulligans in precision shooting. Geesh! If I didn't know better I would say that it sounds like too many millennials have started shooting rimfire benchrest."Whaaaaa I missed a shot whaaaaaa. I wanna do over!"

Spec Out a Barrel For Me

Ah, it's ok Dave. Tim just likes being that guy in the elevator. He comes here to blow off a little - - steam(?). No one should take it personally. I don't. Tim and I, we're old buddies.
