    6PPC: Fireformed, Annealed...starting load development....component shortage

I’m not sure which Bart’s....I kind of bought them as fireforming bullets, but I have a bunch, so I want to start loading there. I think I’ll start with H322, but I don’t have a lot...I’m surprised by your recommendation of CCI 400 since PPC’s typically shoot well hot. 14 twist barrel, chamber...

    6PPC: Fireformed, Annealed...starting load development....component shortage

OK, I have a light varmint rifle in 6PPC. I have 50 fireformed brass that have been annealed after forming. I have VARGET, H322, H4895, CFE223....also CCI 400 and CCI 450 primers....also Barts 68gr, Berger 68gr, Berger 64gr bullets. Any tips where to start component=wise? I’m thinking get...

6 PPC from 220 Russian Lapua

I agree, hate losing the cases. I only have five fingers though, so, I’ll scrap hit brass. I checked firing pin protrusion and came up with 0.050” - 0.060”....I forget now. I checked for dirt, grease in the bolt shroud. There was some. I think the Hornady cleaner/lube got it clean and lubed...

6 PPC from 220 Russian Lapua

The primers were CCI 400’s. I’m holding the 450’s as an option for when I go to accuracy loads. Using CFE223 also as a fireform powder. I seat with the K&M tool. I adjust to where I can seat by feel and seat one to a slight crush. Then I set it to the setting when the handle touches the body. I...

6 PPC from 220 Russian Lapua

I checked them all, but the 220 Russian shoulder doesn’t seem to provide a great false shoulder. I’m looking at protrusion and excess lube first. Then I got maybe a 0.001-0.002” longer to make that a tighter fit.

6 PPC from 220 Russian Lapua

I wanted to do that, but I won’t work on a hit primer that didn’t fire.

6 PPC from 220 Russian Lapua

So, yesterday, I had 2 in 10 that wouldn’t fire. I sized them just enough to close the bolt handle without force. I seated to where I was 0.001” shorter than the click from primary extraction. It was cold at the range. I don’t think there is grease in the firing pin area, but maybe by the...

6 PPC from 220 Russian Lapua

I’m not sure what you guys have for chambers, etc. Expand, turn and load doesn’t fit my rifle. I had to FL Size. After my first round, I’m going to FL Size until it just closes the bolt, expand, trim, turn. I ended up doing that with my first 10 also.

6 PPC from 220 Russian Lapua

Thanks alinwa. I’m confused and I have a fair amount of reloading experience. What I get from this is a lot of methods are being used, but I cannot understand what is safe other than you all walked away from that gun on that day. This is all good in an hv action and barrel, but I fear what...

6 PPC from 220 Russian Lapua

So, you guys have talked me into 6PPC....looks like I need to learn to make 6PPC from 220 Russian. This looks like Expand on mandrel, then FL size to get full neck length, then Expand on mandrel, neck turn, load and shoot. Should I anneal after neck turning? Is there a better way? How do you...
