    ICSC match Saturday 19 August...

We will have this month's group match Saturday the 19th. As usual we will start at 10 AM sharp. Come early to register, set up and have coffee and a donut. Henceforth, at every match there will be a referee appointed. Competitors will not have access to targets after they are scored and hung...

    My new benchrest rifle...

What a handle like "Pikedrop" you must be interested in pike fishing... I just happen to own most of a lake which has good pike fishing. Hitch your boat up and come on up and we'll catch some. The State of Michigan owns part of the Eastern shore of the lake (I own the rest) and they have a boat...

    My new benchrest rifle...

I'm thinking seriously about sending the scope out this winter for a bump to 12X and a 1/2" dot. This, obviously, is a dual purpose gun and that would be about as far as I would want to go. The Unertl is extremely clear, the crosshairs are sharp and you would be surprised just how precisely you...

    My new benchrest rifle...

I shot the gun in a score match at Tawas yesterday. I improved my score by about forty points over the last match and could shoot tens at will as long as the wind was consistant. After properly securing the scope I had tried 2015 powder at home and found it worked very well in the duece...

Just Sharing a Tuesday Night Gem

Matt, Thanks. It's fun for the old guys to get together and shoot. It was a beautiful evening. Bay County roads suck. Porsche suspensions aren't made for that s***. Dick

    My new benchrest rifle...

This is a very early Unertl from back in the days when Unertl bought the mounts from Lyman. There is no screw like the one that you are talking about. I have a good set of the Unertl mounts and, if I do send it out for the bump and the crosshairs next winter, I will probably have them install...

    My new benchrest rifle...

I started BR in 1977 in Hunter Rifle matches at the Saginaw Field & Stream club. Hunter Rifle restricted scope power to 6X. I found that if you carefully quarter the black ring with the crosshairs that you could actually aim the rifle very precisely. Whoever designed that target had their head...

    My new benchrest rifle...

I did the adjustments on the mounts and, also, seated the bullets so I jumped them .020" rather than the hard jam that I always use. The results were spectacular. My last four test groups ranged from 2/10" to 4/10" which is better than a No. 1 is supposed to shoot. Keep in mind that this is an...

    My new benchrest rifle...

The guy I am referring to is temporarily out of business caring for a sick relative. He has answered a couple of emails but is doing no work till further notice. However, Bill Ackerman's company is still in business and will work on Unertls. I called Cheryl there a while back about boosting...

    My new benchrest rifle...

All I'm going to check is to see if there are any burrs on the scope bases and if there is any problem where the mounts fit over them. Burrs can make it tricky to get a solid, secure tightening of the scope to the rifle. I sent it out to the scope repair guy in Ohio when I got it and he said...

    My new benchrest rifle...

You and me both. I sold my last benchrest rifle and used the dollars to finance this project. I just can't get around enough to be serious about BR anymore. I found the Unertl at a gunshow at a very good price. Then I got a good deal on the Ruger action. The rest is documented in this thread. I...

    My new benchrest rifle...

Really scary if you consider that she lost nearly 20% of her body weight. Thank God she started to look better just a few hours after they hooked her up to the drip. She's much, much better now, home and things are returning to normal which means she has plenty of time to patiently explain to me...

    My new benchrest rifle...

Glorya was hugely dehydrated... she lost seventeen lbs. in a week or two. (Her normal weight is 115 and she was down to 98.) She got properly hydrated in the hospital and a major change in medications. She is home and much better now.

    My new benchrest rifle...

I switched scopes and shot this morning. I used Remington's old load of 23-1/2 gr. of 4895. I got four good groups (out of four) between 2/10" and 4/10". The gun will shoot. When I first went to sight in this morning i found the scope was loose after a shot or two. I tightened the scope mounts...

    My new benchrest rifle...

I shot the Ruger in it's third match Saturday with really terrible results. It was the second worst score I have ever shot, the only worse one was in my first match ever when I shot my little Sako .308 hunting rifle. That was forty years ago. I either have a scope problem or a fore-end bedding...

    Is Photobucket pissing...

Photobucket has been emailing me every day. Telling me about the bad things that would happen if I didn't give them $400.00. I've been ignoring them but I get two mails today. My reply... "and the horse you rode in on". Maybe they will go away. I have every picture they have stored in my Mac...
