The first rule is there are no rules.

I have to agree with newberry's comment about loading into the lands negating differences in case neck tensions. I shoot a lot of 30 cal. 155 gr. bullets and will comment on those. The Berger VLD's need to be loaded so that they are about .015 into the lands to get the best accuracy. I think...

Used 30 cal palma and bench barrels?

I have two used 30 cal. Palma barrels. One is a Tru-Flite 4 groove 13 twist with 3500 rounds and another that is a Lilja 3 groove 13 twist with 2750 rounds. Both are 30 " long. The Tru-Flite is threaded 1 1/16-16 for a Quadlite action and the Lilja is threaded 1 1/16-18 for a Stolle Panda. I'll...

    How many rifles per year

It seems like I read somewhere that a custom maker could produce a total of 50 guns a year without paying Federal Excise Tax as a manufacturer. Is this the correct number? Thanks, Blair

    elevation changing, opinions?

Thanks Nat. Cleaning regime is pretty through, Montana Extreme, brush, patches every time I shoot it and JB about twice a year. I understand that one sign of a barrel going bad is when it won't hold elevation anymore, but I wasn't sure about it in this case. It actually seemed more like a stress...

    elevation changing, opinions?

I have a Palma rifle built on a Stolle Panda Big Bore action with 30" medium contour Palma barrel. In the last few matches it has started losing elevation throughout a 15 shot string. It tends to drop 1/2 minute to as much as 1 minute from one shot to the next. Not more than 1 1/2 minutes...

Do I need to re-work this reamer?

Just guessing here, but it sounds like you don't have much if any freebore. That's OK for lightweight bullets or even heavier bullets that are seated deep in the case to where you only have the ogive sticking out the end of the case. You could have a problem with factory ammo in the 150 grain...

    Powder lot variability

Long range and Palma shooters have complained for years about the variable burn rates associated with different lots of Varget. The solution that most of us use is to buy as much as you can, maybe 3 or 4 jugs, work up the load, and you're set for a pretty long time. When you near the end of that...

    Twist rate in .223 barrels

The 8 twist will shoot the 52/53 grain match bullets just fine. Then if you want, you still have the option of moving up to the 69/75/80 grain bullets.

    American Custom Gunmakers Guild Show

gunmaker, Once again, congratulations on acceptance into the ACGG. What is the lpi on your checkering, 28? Looks great! As for plastic stocks and accuracy being another catagory, I always saw the guild as being an artistic based organization. One based on keeping the "art" of the gunsmithing...

190 SMK powders using in 308 Win

Two powders that I am quite fond of with the 190 SMK are Hodgdon 4064 and VV N550. Both work quite well and the 4064 has been a standby for many years.
