I almost detect a slight inkling on your part that powder characteristics may possibly be responsible for some of this shot to shot variation? Ken

    BIG difference in LT-32 lots

The impurities you are referring to are stripped during the extraction process or before. Ken

    BIG difference in LT-32 lots

Cellulose purity is directly related to ballistic performance. As to quality of the raw material or feedstock, mills are local sourcing from managed acreage; at least here in the north. Ken

    BIG difference in LT-32 lots

Sorry, I still see cellulose purity as a high level criterion for NC lot to lot consistency. Ken

    BIG difference in LT-32 lots

From what I have read cellulose suppliers are providing a higher quality cellulose today than what they could give back a number of years ago. I think the higher lot to lot variations seen today are mostly a result of the NC manufacturer’s attempts to limit costs through a modified nitration...

    133 Rolling Over

Just wondering what you were referring to by “different result” whether you were talking stabilization or the powder. Ken

    133 Rolling Over

I am curious; are you referring to ball powders? Ken

Max pressure coinciding with max accuracy.

I think the increase in velocity you see in Brad’s examples is simply the longer barrel providing a longer distance and time for the pressure gases to act on the bullet. Ken

    harrell measure question

You are not the only one trying to learn what important and what’s not and when I read something that I do not understand and or falls outside widely accepted beliefs I often question. And certainly not looking for an argument. Here is a good article on Temperature and Pressure...

    harrell measure question

You may be correct………… as I don’t have much proof :). But as I understand it powder composition, grain configuration and caliber will all influence temperature sensitivity and what works for you will not necessarily work for all. Ken

    harrell measure question

I do not see how it is possible to get powder insensitivity by - being careful. Start temperature and power temperature over the entire day are constantly changing, yours must be caliber specific; it is really not clear to me how such a small weight change will affect performance but a 20F +...

    harrell measure question

I am not familiar with double base powders or long range shooting envelope requirements; and, I am curious as to your temperature insensitivity. Ken

    harrell measure question

BR has different meanings for many and it is hard for us to recognize all what we need or ought to count. Some believe that only things that can be measured are worthy of attention others recognize it as more of a stochastic process. The only thing I know for sure is that it ain’t easy. Ken

    harrell measure question

I am curious; what is the pressure/velocity - value, of an individual granule of 133? (PPC)

    swaging lead bullets

Al, Years ago I shot my father’s competition slug rifle, the bullet was a smooth no groove non- driving band bullet; a two alloy, two-piece cast bullet swaged together where the front part had a harder alloy than the back. If memory serves me right, it was a 50 cal. and shot very well. Ken

Lead Mine and smelter closeing down

I have worked in the Lead Industry (same company) for 34 years. When I started it was a US – Canadian company then an all-Canadian company and after that it changed two more times, both multi-national global. A lot of smoke and mirrors. Ken

So many Niteforce Competition Scopes for Resale!

Man "O" Man was that a humbling experience. You want humbling. :) - 100 yd. VFS two benches down match two, competitor “X” has a misfire and the shooter next to him lends him his rifle to finish the match. Competitor “X” ‘s rifle is out of commission because of powder in the trigger but no...

    Can anyone confirm this information

Australian propellant code Andy, from what it looks like the original Australian powder codes (using Dupont formulations ) were drafted in 41-42 and worked as follows: Example: AR2201 AR = Australian Rifle First number = grain shape according to the following: 1 = Tube shaped 2 = disk...

    Load Tuning for temperature

Keith, when I went to school the teachers I appreciated the most were the ones that made me think. I appreciate your input, thanks. A couple of follow up questions: • Values for this type of temperature dependence must vary by gun design / construction and by how quickly the rounds are...

    Load Tuning for temperature

Keith, Sorry, I will try again. Does the dependent variable (energy losses) not respond to the independent variable ? (powder start temperature) My understanding of NC temperature sensitivity is that there is a burn rate Arrhenius type dependency on temperature whereby the rate of energy...
