    The Marlin 60 Mouse House

Do some homework. If the receiver is, in fact, aluminum, then I'd anodize - it's pretty easy. I suspect though that it's actually some zinc alloy, in which case (attempted) anodizing may destroy it. In that case "paint it" - duracoat, et. al. GsT

I didn't have a problem with the accurate shooter link - just the jamescalhoon.com link. GsT

    BRASS and PRIMER HARDNESS???

I can't get jamescalhoon.com to load for me for anything (could be temporary), but I did find the article you mentioned on Accurate Shooter: https://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/tag/james-calhoon/ Thanks! GsT

bolt will not close on old or new brass in my 404 Jeff.

First step, strip the extractor (and ejector if it's part of the bolt), remove the firing pin and spring and see if it will chamber. You didn't mention the action, but the extractor would be my first suspicion given your description of it having worked fine before. Also, I assume you've...

Bore gauges to 0.266" and ports are 90*. But you've got to shoot it to really know anything - at the end of the day it's how little (or much) the rifle moves when fired... GsT

I use this brake: https://www.lantac-usa.com/product-page/dragon-muzzle-brake-223-556 on my USPSA competition rifle. As with any brake, the degree to which it is obnoxious to others nearby is precisely the degree to which it is effective. It's very effective... GsT

    Barrel vise.

I *very slightly* moisten the contact surface and then use a little rosin (available in the lifetime supply bottle from Brownell's). GsT

    Shilen DGA Bolt Disassembly

It may well be a '700 pin (it looks the same) but I don't know for sure. GsT

    Shilen DGA Bolt Disassembly

Typically you hold the firing pin to the rear and unscrew the bolt shroud. Look up Rem 700 bolt disassembly if that doesn't make sense - I'm sure yours comes apart the same way. I suspect a good cleaning will "fix" it. GsT

we need a humor forum.....until then

True story: I was sitting in the ER with my wife and I overheard the doctor in the adjacent stall (what do you call those? Stall seems appropriate...). Say "You know what they call the guy that graduates at the bottom of his class in medical school?" . . . "Doctor" Something to keep in mind...

    Old powders

I'm sure it will still work, not sure if it's BR worthy, I'd be interested in hearing from others. I've loaded a lot of old (~20 year, some still in cardboard cannisters) powder with no discernible lack of performance, but I wasn't shooting BR with them. GsT

    Question on sighting

If you're shooting at a sharp elevation (up or down) you will hit higher than a zero obtained by firing horizontally. Your trajectory changes, because gravity is no longer acting perpendicular to the line of sight. So only a fraction of gravitational acceleration is moving the bullet in a...
