Pick a barrel weight class, LV, HV, #7, Bruno Medium, etc. Then chamber to a length that brings your weight class up to max, LV-5#4oz for example. On a Leonard stock, Panda action I need 5# 2oz to get 10.5# for a LV gun as an example. See how your gun/barrel assembly shoots and handles at the weight barrel you picked. Sometimes you might have to go a few ounces lighter for best accuracy.

The point is, BARREL LENGTH , per se, in centerfire benchrest don't mean squat!! Its the total assembly that counts.

Gary i have 2 identical 6ppc guns they both shoot good, but they both dont have the same load. One likes 29.1 gr of 133 and one likes 30gr of 133 With a 68gr. Me personally I like to start my loads at 28grs of 133 and work my way up. only Your gun will let you know when your ther, i do not know what the velocity of my charges are even though I do have a chronograph, i personally think that chronographs can help in fine tuning a gun, its just knowing how to use one to help you get that edge
