Well, this Forum says, "Firearms topics not related to Benchrest", so here goes. I KNOW an M1 Carbine is NOT anywhere NEAR a BR rifle. However, I would like to make mine as absolutely accurate as I can, for what it is. I'm having a new Criterion barrel installed by DGR, and I'm wondering if bedding the barrel/receiver in the stock (Fajin) would contribute to accuracy. I'm also wondering about break-in procedure for the new barrel. ..or if it really needs it. I know you can't make a silk purse out of a Sow's ear, but it's a good 200-300 yard rifle and I'd like to maximize it for what it is. Thanks, guys...

Seems like I remember shooting 300 yds prone slow fire for carbine qualification in the Reserves. Turned around before the relay started and two Sgts, and the CO were standing in back of me. I said wassup? They tell me I only dropped 2 points so far on standing and sitting. That did it-- dropped 5 points my first five shots, they left, still made Expert.

Mine is scoped with a Weaver 3-9X40 AO, and "I" have NO problem hitting at 300 every time. All I'm looking to do is tighten up my group.

I too shot Expert with the .30 Carbine back in the mid sixty's in the Air Force. As best I remember we only shot @100 yds., but I'm not positive on the distance. It's been a long time. I've owned quite a few weapons, up to .458 Magnum, but have never wanted to own a .30 Carbine. I'll take a good handgun any day.:)

although bedding will help with accuracy on the carbine expect a a big improvement
with hand loads you probably can get it to shoot in th inch range at 50 yds.
It was designed to take the place of the 45 acp 1911 side arm It did it well .
the 110 sierra varmint bullet works very well in 30 carbine case.
you bed it like a garand mainly just the action and try to get the barrel to free float.{ not touching the fore stocks.
