ok so I'm doing what i call research and I think i narrowed it down, so if i were to order a barrel for a .224, I'm really ordering a .223 rem because the new fire arms today the bullet diameter is .224, right?

Some older .22 Hornet's had barrels that were .223" but to the best of my knowledge all current .22-caliber centerfire rifles are at .224". That includes the .223, .225 Winchester, etc.

Thanks ReedG, now the next step is finding a used Remington .223, they are few and far in my area

But you can buy a norinco m-14 (think they call it an m305) and the norinco 870 copy and thanks to willie clinton we cant.

trying to stick with a bolt action that i can build up from. The Remington seems to be a good choice for a starter because of the many after market parts that can go into it...the m305 is something i may consider down the road for a new toy, and that must really suck that the US cant import them because it looks to be a nice piece of iron
