The H4198 extreme measures better than the IMR.

anyone use imr 4198 for 30br ?

I've got an old partially-full (metal) can of IMR4198 that I use for fire-forming 30 BR cases. Use about 33.5 gr with a 125 TNT and it works great. Last summer I tried a little over 34 gr with a 116gr Euber that shot well. Getting that much in the case was a hassle tho' because its grains are longer than the H variety and resulted in a compressed load. Also in my (limited) experience it seemed faster burning than the H4198 and N130 I've been using. If I can get the time I'd like to run a side-by-side test with the H and IMR. If I do I'll post the results. If it's the only powd you can get your hands on it'll probably work. It doesn't meter well so you'll need to weigh each charge and use a funnel with a l-o-n-g drop tube to get it into the case. Start your loads low and work up 0.2 or 0.3 grains at a time watching for pressure signs. Good luck and let us know if you try it.

H-4198 is pretty much the powder of choice for 30BR competition. I'd save the IMR for fireforming or feed it to your lawn if there's not much of it. :)

Or feed it to your .222 or .223, which will happily gobble it up, unless you only shoot BR.

What about Benchmark?

Benchmark works great. You need 36 grains to get into the 2950 tune window.

Haven't tried it, but I'm told that Rel 7 works well also.

Some lots of Re7 work great. I have a lot that does. It is similar by weight to 4198 but is considerably denser.

I couldnt get enough Bnchmark into a case to even come close to 2950. more like 2650. I dont recall the lot number on my powder jug though. Accuracy was there, just to dam slow!! Lee

Rather than make plant food out of it, send it to me and I'll feed it to my 45-70.
