Pete I agree .....

I have seen only one shooter really excel this year and he did great before his 6 O'clock pin .......So did it change things in my opinion no ........

Other I have talked with at matches that have switched see no real difference ....... So is it worth the cost of a new barrel ?

It was the last statement here that prompted the question.... "So is it worth the cost of a new barrel ?"
So thanks for the clarification for me but what did he mean by that statement?

What it costs to covert an action you can have a new barrel put on or buy almost a case of ammo ............

Why would you put on a new barrel?

Why would you put on a new barrel?

Just saying cost Vs Benefit

Ifn one gets a barrel that won't shoot competatively one should change barrels. barrels are less expensive than time, effort and Ammo.

Something is rotten in Denmark? Bill Calfee has cast a vote for "doesn't matter", sounds like this poll is compromised. thanks, douglas

Best part of this whole post is finding the Abbot and Costello clip
I have two rifles with the 6 o'clock pin. I can misread the wind just as often as I do with the 12 o'clocks

For me a more informative question would be: If you were buying a new action and had the choice between a 6:00 or a 12::00 pin, same price, which would you choose?

It's obvious from the poll...6 o'clock would be the choice.

No, you have it wrong. None of the above is ahead.

Actually, that was my choice too, Fred; but, they don't have that choice listed!

"None of the above" was my choice also.

Since I 'm feeling ornery, I 'm glad to see several "none of the above" choices...it will be MUCH easier to outshoot one of you guys with no firing pin!...I suppose in all fairness I should have included "It doesn't matter...let the action maker choose for me." as a choice.

I have been a party to testing this with a single barrel and action. We removed the stock and scope and set the rifle in a wood yoke to hold it and fired 100 rounds in the 12 position and 100 rounds from the 6 position across a chronograph. We did this twice and the velocities were just nearly the same. On one test the 12 barely won and then on the other the 6 barely won. There is just no real difference.

I would not turn around for the difference. If your favorite gunsmith insists on one or the other and the cost is close, just humor your gunsmith and let him do what he wants because it doesn't matter.
