There seems to be some misinformation going around about the Oehler 35P [Proof] chronograph.

Oehler Research, Inc. is right here in Austin. I called them a couple of minutes ago.

The 35P is STILL IN PRODUCTION and they are only HALF WAY THROUGH THE PRODUCTION RUN as of October 1, 2010.

So, if some of you are still interested in that model you still have the opportunity to acquire one.

The gentleman I spoke to told me that since they were being beaten about the head and shoulders so severely over the availability, they decided to keep making them.

Here's the link: http://www.oehler-research.com/model35.html. :)

This is in the for-what-its-worth department. When I purchased an Oehler 35P back in 1999 or so, I looked at it, and the Model 43 with the acoustic target.

I've always been cheap. I could afford the 43 (with acoustic target), except of course, it would have meant not buying something else. At the time, the extra features of the 43 didn't seem worth the money, esp. since it would come from some other desire of the time, whatever that was. Finally, I didn't have a laptop, and they were real expensive back then. I bought the 35P.

Every time I'm a cheapskate, I make a mistake. Here too. Now of course, if the difference between the 35P and 43 is a mortgage payment, go with the 35P. And truth to tell, some of my interest in the 43 stems from my long-range shooting, the ability to get ES-SD for the drag on bullets (variations in BC due to manufacturing issues). But for *testing*, the 43 is the right tool. In testing, one thing leads to another. Except if you don't have the tools.

... And, truth be told "Production of the Model 43 remains suspended."

From what I understand Oehler is only making a run of 35P's and not going into full production, I could be wrong. I ordered a new one back in June and got an email from them this past week that I should get the new this coming week. The 35P I have now is 16 years old now and there's been thousands of rds fired thru it, never hit it once. Did have to replace one of the Skyscreens this past summer, little wires broke. Cheap for 16 yrs of use.
