Last year I bought this Winchester 75 at an estate sale.

It is in pretty nice condition, but has two issues-

1. No sights

2 Someone has filled in the front sight dovetail and painted over it. I think it has been filled in with lead, but am not certain of what material it is.

I've got several different rear sights that might work-- a Redfield straight 75, a Redfield "dog leg" tall 75, and a Lyman 58E. I also have a Redfield Olympic that is currently out of work. I've read that all of these sights might work, but I suspect that each would require a different front sight.

Anyone able to guide me as to which rear sight to use and what it should be paired up with? Anyone have an opinion as to which is the best rear sight (Redfield 75 or Lyman 58E).

Anyone ever heard of filling in the front sight dove tail? I suspect that this rifle was set up with a scope before and that this was done for aesthetic purposes.

Don't know if this is any help or not. I have a Redfield No.75 sight that I have been trying to sell. It is made for the M75 with the appropriate base (75HW). AFAIK there were two different height Globe front sights. One fit directly in the dovetail while the other used a seperate base in the dovetail so it could be removed when necessary or desired. I think either front sight will work, it's simply a matter that one is higher than the other and quickly detachable to accomodate your particular style of shooting. But you'd first have to clean out the dovetail. It was probably filled in because the guy was strictly a scope shooter. Globe front sights can usually be found at gun shows.

Hope this helps.

How much are you looking for for your Redfield 75 sight?

Also, the mounting block is shown in the picture. Is that the proper mounting block for your Redfield sight?

Thanks

Take the mounting base off and see if it's numbered. It should be #75HW. But, it could also be for a different brand sight. If you have an M75 sight like mine you can try it for fit.

Email me and we can talk about the sight price. joyray(at)frontiernet(dot)net

I've been given an offer on the sight. I don't do PMs and this is the only way I have to let you know.
