Setting up a Shoot

To create a shoot click the Shoot button then click New. You need to put in a name for the shoot, select a range, select a Sanctioning Organization and a Region. Also put in the correct starting and ending dates as well as the first and last bench numbers to be used. Click Save then select the Aggs tab. (See Shoot1.jpg)

To add aggs, click New Agg, select an Agg Type, check Includes Warmup only if you are shooting a five shot warmup, make sure the Agg Date is correct, then click the Save Agg button. Repeat for each agg. (See Shoot2.jpg)

After adding all of the aggs, select the Combination Aggs tab. Click the New Combination Agg button and enter a name for the combination agg. Do this for each combination agg (i.e. Light Varmint Grand, Heavy Varmint Grand, Two Gun, etc).

Next, assign the correct aggs to each combination agg. You do this by selecting the combination agg in the top listbox, then select each component agg in the Available Components list box and click the left arrow button. For example, for the Light Varmint Grand you will add the Light Varmint 100 and Light Varmint 200 aggs. For Heavy Varmint Grand you will add the Heavy Varmint 100 and Heavy Varmint 200 aggs. For the Two Gun combination agg you will add all of the component aggs. (See Shoot3.jpg)

After you have created the shoot along with it's accompanying aggs it's time to register the shooters.

Click the Registration button. If you previously check the "Make this the Active Shoot" checkbox before closing the Shoot window the Registration window will open. If there is no active shoot then a list of the shoots will be display and you should pick the correct shoot from that list.

The image Registration1.jpg shows the Registration window before adding any shooters. To add a shooter you can either press the enter key or click the Add Shooter button which will display the shooter pick list (see image Registration2.jpg). Select a shooter to add from the list and either press the enter key or click the Ok button. Once you have picked the shooter to add you will be asked to confirm that you want to add this shooter (see image Registration3.jpg). In earlier versions confirmation was not required, but we had problems with shooters being accidently added so the confirmation question was added to the process.

If you need to add a shooter who is not in the database, click the New button on the shooter pick list. This will display the Shooter window where you can enter the shooter's information (see image Registration4.jpg). After you have filled in the shooter information click the Save & Close button to return to the Registration window. You will be asked to confirm adding the shooter.

The Registration window is designed for fast data entry. Hitting the enter key displays the shooter pick list. You can type in a few letters of the shooter's last name to narrow the list then use the arrow keys to select the correct shooter, and finally hit the enter key to pick the shooter. Finally you can press Y to confirm that you want to add the shooter. Shooters can be selected and added with just a few keystrokes.

The pick list is used anywhere you need to pick an item from a long list of items, such as picking a shoot from the entire list of shoots, or picking a shooter from the shooter table.

The pick list is designed to make finding a particular item easy.

Look at image PickList1.jpg and note that just above the shooter list is a row of boxes for LastName, FirstName, MiddleName, etc. Typing in these boxes causes the list to be narrowed to the entries that match what you have types. The example in PickList1.jpg shows the list when the last name Smith has been typed in the LastName field. This narrows the list to those shooters with the last name Smith.

At this point you could use the arrow keys to move up and down in the list, and if there were only a few entries that would be the best option, but you can narrow the list further by entering more data in the rest of the fields.

Image PickList2.jpg shows what happens when the letter H is typed in the FirstName field. The list has been narrowed to two shooters.

You can use the left and right arrow keys to move from box to box, so after typing Smith in the LastName box, hit the right arrow key to move to the FirstName box then start typing.

Any time there are multiple entries in the list you can use the up and down arrow keys to move to an entry. The enter key picks the currently highlighted entry.
