Im not sure which would be the better speed for buffing - polishing barrels, the 3450 RPM or 1725 RPM? I noticed Gordy in his video used the 8" extend, is this most common? Other input in also welcomed.

I prefer the 1725 rpm. The 3450 tends to sling off the compound before the wheel is loaded.
I use 8" wheels most of the time.

One of the best polishers I ever saw, is my good friend Jim Stroh...His polish jobs are a work of art. He recommends an rpm of slow, slow, & slower...1725 is max, and Jim really prefers an arbor mounted shaft where the pulleys can be adjusted for the slower speeds. Speed heats the metal and hardens the compound. I use a 1725 buffer and great good results, but I have to really work to come close to Jim...
