View Full Version : My first shoot :D

Hey :D

So I FINALLY got my permitts and picked up my .22 CZ 452. I went for my very first shoot on Friday to St Marys shooting center and these are a couple of my better results, All but one are 5 shot groups :)

It didn't take me long to get the scope sighted in reasonably well. I was suprised at how everything from the way you breath to the way you squeeze the trigger comes into effect even at short distances, I can't even begin to imagine how they effect you at 600+ Meters.

Keep in mind this was my very first time shooting a rifle so I will improve soon hehe

I also noticed the difference different ammunition makes, I shot a LOT tighter groups with the Low Velocity CCI stuff than I did with the Winchester High Velocity, Not only that but I found I had to re-sight my scope in when I changed ammo as they both shot totally different.

Anyway it was a LOT of fun! and I'm going again tomorrow :D

Sounds like you had a great time, that's waht it is all about. Every time you change ammo you probably will have to adjust the scope, even different lot numbers of the same ammo. As long as you are shooting paper, standard velocity will mostly be best. All the best target ammo is standard velocity. Your off to a good start. You might try some other standard velocity brands to see what shoots best in your rifle. Wolf, SKJ, Eley and Lapua are a few to try.

Hi Ben,
That's GREAT shooting! intoxicating, isn't it?

Your comment about CCI S/V giving you the best groups, no surprise there for a couple of reasons. If its CCI product #0032, the box should be marked "Target" in small letters. Not that being marked 'Target" makes it shoot better but that CCI pays a bit more attention to quality control as compared to plinking and hunting ammo. Also, CCI S/V does not reach the speed of sound and never suffers the bobble related to the transition through the sound barrier as it gets down range that the high velocity ammo does. For best accuracy, one wants to shoot ammo that either is slower than the speed of sound or reaches the target before it drops into the subsonic speed range. For this reason all target and match ammo in .22LR caliber is subsonic meaning below 1100 ft/sec in velocity...

In any case, your targets are impresive for your first time shooting a rifle and a new rifle at that... Welcome to the club!!!

Happy Shooting...

Hey thanks for the great comments :D

I'll stick to the low velocity stuff today and try a few different brands.. It is suprisingly addicting, The only word I could use to describe it is fun.. I really enjoyed myself :)
