View Full Version : New project

Hello all.

I would like to have some opinion of some matters regarding a new project I am thinking of.

It is a rifle that I am going to use for short range benchrest and score shooting 100-300 yards. It is going to be a switch barrel glued down unit, one 6PPC or 6BR barrel in 1:14, perhaps one barrel in 1:8 or 1:9 in 6BR just for fun and testing (300 yards is not long enough for VLD bullets to give any but negative advantage in my opinion) and one barrel in .30PPC or 30BR 1:18 twist. My question is; would Remington 700 XBR action squared and trued be good enough to build this on and would a laminated wood stock with thumb hole (made with flat wide bottom for bag stability) be as good as a fiberglass stock if weight is not of concern ? And secondly where could I get such a blank. Thanks in advance

6PPC and 30BR would be good choices for competion. The extractor can be made to extract both. Weight is a factor and needs to be reckoned with or you will end up limited to specific classes.

I'm doing a 6PPC........Shehane Baby Tracker stock.....it's light & sweet.

'Short range benchrest' and 'thumbhole stock' don't go together.
