I have recently got a 700 sps Remington 308 , I was hoping to get some really accurate loads worked up for it and was wondering were to start, bullet weight , powders and so on . Wanting to do some target shooting and varmint? Was hoping for some quick help to get started with this thing and I will refine it as I go. Again thanks for your help.:)

SHAWN,

The best place to go is on 6mmBR.com and go to the 308 site and I think
you will find all the information that you are looking for.

I think Federal makes something similar. Gold Medal Match.
For 1:10 twist. M1 or bolt.
SMK 168 gn. IMR-4064
Start at 40.5gn. Watch primer for pucker.

What he said. Thats where I started.

I have the same rifle. The scope , a Leupold 6.5-20X has a Tactical milling reticle made for the 175 grain SMK @2680fps. Federal and Black hills produce that ammo, also the military M118LR is the same loading. I purchased 10 boxes from black hills and found it to be very accurate, first time out fired 3/4moa @600 yards. Since then, I have been loading just about the exact load but am playing with neck tension and seating depth.

I am toying with the thought of loading 155 grain Scenar's just to see how I can get them to preform.

Here is the 6BR link for the .308:

Before I jumped into benchrest I practiced with a Rem 700 VS 308.

My best load was 168 gr Berger VLD, 42.5 gr Win 748 and CCI BR primers. Until I shot the barrel out it would agg under .5 with many groups in the .3s and occasionally in the .2s.

I was using Lapua brass and neck sizing...used Wilson neck sizing die and Wilson seater with an arbor press.
