I have aquired an M1 H&R CMP Collector grade rifle. There is no wear anywhere. No wear on the hammer or the bottom of the bolt. No wear on the front and rear sight protectors. Beautiful rifle and I have all the CMP paperwork along with the buildsheet.
My question is should I shoot this rifle or sell it and get a shooter. I bought it to compete in the John C. Garand matches at our club. Now some of my shooting buddies are freaking out at the thought of me shooting the gun. Apparently the CMP has had no Collector grades for sale in about 3 years and the value just keeps going up.
Thanks, Dale McClure

It is your decision, is the money more important to you or shooting an outstanding virtually new rifle of more value.
I have a CMP Springfield M1 last year of production in new condition that I have never shot, I won't sell it but have a shooter grade M1 also.
The shooter grade is a Winchester.

It's a hard decision. I often ask myself "is it my duty to preserve this rifle for someone else when I'm gone?" The new owner may shoot it the day he gets it. I can't take it with me. It's not a rare rifle in the sense that they only made a few of them 100 years ago. No, I don't need the money from selling the M1.

I have taken a double set Ballard and a double set Hepburn and made competition rifles with them. They were both worth much more than an un-fired H&R M1 even after they had been modified.

I'm having an across the course M1 being made right now, but I can't shoot Garand matches with it due to the modifications being done.

I don't know? I would probably feel sad on the way home from the range if I shot it.
Very difficult decision for me.

I've got a very few guns that might have been considered collector's items, but the only reason I have guns it to shoot them, so.... Not having ever had the money to spend on things just to look at I only have things that I use, and take care of, of course.

Tax collecters are at the top of my list, then the collecters that cause the price of certain items to over inflate.

I hunt all of my Winchester Model 70's and shoot the living hell out of my Match Grade M1 and M1A!!

You only live once shoot that M1 every chance you get.

I mean good grief you're not going to drag it behind a horse; are you?

Shoot it and take good proper care of it.

Have fun!!!!!!!!!
