It will depend on the reamer used to chamber the rifle 1.515 is probably for the early 6BR The later 6 BR Norma utilizes the longer brass probably the 1.542 you are looking at.

The original 6mm BR was designated 6CBR for one of the developers, Jim Carmichel. The 6CBR was 1.500". The later 6BR Remington brass is 1.560" long and the Lapua 6BR Norma is 1.550" long. Like Dick says, its according to your reamer.

Thats very interesting Jerry , I was shooting a 6 BR in 1983 when the cases were made with thin walled 308 cases but I never heard that detail.

Thanks for the info

Dick, when we started shooting the 7BR in big bore handgun silhouette in the late '70's, I borrowed Jim's step die set to make 7BR's out of 308's. I think Skip Otto made those dies and bushings. It took, as I remember, about 5 steps to make a 7BR out of a 308. Then they came out with the 7BR as factory brass. That was the same die set, I guess, that Jim made the 6CBR cases with.

Mike, you can make a chamber cast if you have or can get some Cerrosafe. Also, if you have access to a lathe and a borescope, chuck up a 6BR case in a 3-jaw and drill out the primer hole to where the borescope will go through that hole. Then you can take a known length 6BR case and see where it comes to in relation to the chamber neck.
