I am about to start working brass with my new K&M neck expander die, and are wondering about this screw that sits underneath in the expander mandrel ? I guess it is meant to stop the brass at the right height, but I can’t say I think it feels very good jamming the screw head right on the inside of the flash hole. The screw is to long for my brass. I can always cut it, but why can’t I just use the expander without this screw.
(Is this screw there for some other reason?)
Someone that can help?

You're right about the purpose of the screw...........and I don't like banging it into the inside of the case head either. I just take it out and watch so I don't run the mouth of the case into the shoulder of the mandrel shank.

I feel the same way and so I adjust the die to the point where I don't mash the neck on the top of the press.
