30 cal 1:10 #4 Shilen.....

I dialed it in for a 300WSM.

I first set it up "between centers" thru the headstock indicating the outside of the blank for a start point.

I then went inside........I use Gordie's Method and in this case set my main in-jaw pivot point right on the leade to make it easy.

.3003 bushing tight in the chamber leade area and an inch inside the muzzle...... so far, so good. Chamber end lapping bell would take a .3012 for the first 1/2", then a .3008 for another 1/2" then .3003

Now using only the 1.5" around and mainly beyond the leade I dialed it in.

And screwed it up. soon had the muzzle flopping like a fish.

Eyeballed it back to center and tried again. Screwed the pooch again, lost it for the second time.

Stood back, took a few breaths and realized I was adjusting "thru center" each time in too-large increments. So, finally, after a half hour of jacking about on the work side of the headstock I got thee wabble out of two points 1.5" apart. I went back to the outboard side and buried a long-stem Lon'Gisland into the bore and started ooozing 'er down to touch the top of the lands......'tic'....... just the teensiest twitch

'tic'

'tic'

'tic'

clear 'round the dial!!!

My first thought?

"Ohhh Pooo, this barrel will NEVER shoot!"

It would be interesting to hear if this barrel was better / worse / same as your other barrels. That being as close to "all else being equal" as we can probably hope for.

Well, I will be shooting it a little. I document every round.......this is for someone else but I will still put probably 15-20rds thru it approving it for 1/4moa and setting the dies. I put a single aiming point on a piece of blueprint paper and walk the scope around making groups/starting load. I'll try post a pic, good/bad/ugly

on your side of the coin,
al is the one that said if you do not shoot 5 -5shot groups you cannot call accuracy( any number).

Well then, I guess we’ll never know.

What sort of competition would one use a 1/4 minute rifle in?

One a' them POS Matches?

Some folks are so fixated in their wee bubbles eh....

It's kinda' like if John Force went around asking people "What's it run in the quarter? Guess we'll never know"

nahhhhh, John has more class than that, heck, Larry The Cable Guy has more class than that :)

Its a .22 CF barrel I ordered by mistake. The"Smith" who fitted it told me it was the straightest barrel he had ever had in his shop.

Its on a shelf under my loading bench. I really have no need for a .22 CF barrel but it's nice to know it's there I guess and it's straight. Never been fored!
